I think they should adapt Errand of Mercy.

    Klingons versus Kirk.

Maybe they come across a duplicate Earth and actually bother to figure out where all those fucking duplicate Earths come from.

I want a Trek film in the style of Interstellar. Not the same plot as Interstellar but more like there's a mystery out there on some planet and our guys are out there alone. We never see Earth or any space station or other starships. Take all the tropes from TOS and do a modern spin on them. They need a landing party, so we send down a bunch of shuttles and make a base camp with a security perimeter and a couple of ground vehicles. We could have a chase on hover bikes or something. It'd be interesting to have a villain that was more like the Probe from Trek IV. Could they do a modern take on something like Vaal or the dikronium cloud creature or the Nimbus III god.

I would love that. If one doesn't get made in the next few years they could do a reunion TMP type movie. The chances are beyond remote though I fear.

As part of it, part of the mysterious thing could send out something destructive that i threatening a colony or Federation world while they explore. So, the Enterprise has to go to intercept it while the landing party deals with the mystery on the planet.

I do like this idea though.

Another 190million dollar blockbuster with ridiculous action scenes is not the answer here, we've had three films of that with what are clearly diminishing returns. Trek needs to stand out from the crowd again.

Not sure who is arguing for that, but ok...I personally think the gap between films is doing as much harm as the content.

That could work, if done right. It could also be a good opportunity for them to bring in a cybernetics expert named Soong, played by Brent Spiner.

No one really is, but this has been the trajectory of the series so far, and I fear continuing down that path simply won't work, unless they really pull something spectacular out of the bag and everyone rushes to see it and it does 700 million. I can't see that happening, can you?

My housemate and I tend to throw around movie ideas when we're bored, and we thought up a plot involving a war with the Klingons, a Klingon defector bringing news that the Borg are coming and a single cube is on the way to Qo'noS, and the Federation and Klingons are forced into an uneasy truce to achieve a common goal, meanwhile, the Enterprise crew is pulled in all directions by various factions who want to let the attack happen, or worse, find a way to weaponise it.

After declaring it to be "an alright idea", we immediately moved on to complaining about the Star Wars prequels.

I think it's a decent idea. At least it's epic and ambitious in scope.

Our goal was to avoid the typical revenge plot, and end with the implication that the only way to defeat the incoming Borg fleet is by making allies across the galaxy. Basically, seeking out new life and new civilisations.

Is the George Kirk crossover story still under consideration? To me it sounds fanboyish, somehow.

I don't know, I think they could pull it off, so long as they don't get too referential like Into Darkness. The Khan references felt shoehorned in and detracted from some of the genuinely good stuff in that movie.

I can't say I'm particularly a fan of the idea either. It would really have to be done very well.

I could see it working if they use a Mirror George Kirk as a way for Jim to find closure. If they focus on that relationship, I'd be interested.

To be honest I'm not a fan of a potential mirror universe story for ST4 either, the alternative reality they're already in is enough for me.

If they want to end it at 4, a natural way to get them to look to the future is to have Kirk find out Carol had had his kid after STID and he didn't know (the daddy arc naturally progresses to Kirk having become a father), Spock and Uhura are going to have a baby (their relationship moves forward, maybe to marriage) - maybe Sulu advises Kirk on fatherhood - and the plot has implications for the future of the Federation/the crew personally - what kind of future do we want for our children/ourselves?
