Scribble's scribbles

Six-feet wide is a pretty damn big "playset"!

One of the ideas I've had for various bridge presentations (displays, really) is to line the individual stations up mounted on a wall in the order as they are on the sets. Kind of like how they're presented on "The Star Trek Blueprints) from TMP or "The Enterprise Flight Manual" given to the actors to learn their stations.

I hadn't originally thought of doing anything for 1:6-scale figs, but I may be able to be persuaded. ;)

Ha ha - that would be amazing! I have copies of those blueprints too. I bet even the great Nanjin Tam himself would be tempted by a movie era science station! QMX has only brought out the Big 3 so far. I will probably wait until most of the crew are released before looking into sourcing TMP style uniforms. I ordered a custom Chief Rand head over a year ago but I'm still waiting :-(. If she finally turns up, I might make some tentative steps for the other uniforms.

I think building key stations is a good start. They can be positioned closer together if space is an issue. I won't lie though my dream is to build the whole thing and have a load of extra crew figures to man the stations, especially alien ones! I'd be totally on board with a 1/6 project!

While I love the detail in 1:6-scale figures, they're just so damn big. I know it's Star Wars, but have you seen the 1:6-scale Millennium Falcon? My gods, it's HUGE!

If I do figures, they'll be unpainted casts. I'll leave the makeup to the buyer. I'm not into those color 3d printed figure heads (or those, "Make yourself a figure!" prints. Sorry, the colors don't look right, they're too low-resolution, and most of the figures are not articulated (another must for me...I don't collect statues). I do hope you get your Rand but after this amount of time? I don't know...

All of this said, 1:6-scale could be beneficial BECAUSE of the detail and the lack of characters and accessories, especially in the Trek universe.

The only other thing I don't care for such large figures is the clothes...fabric rarely scales well. I prefer the molded plastic of smaller figures' clothes. There are some 1:12-scale Star Wars figures with cloth robes or capes, and they just don't look good to me.

Anyway...For now, I'm going to work on my fighter/personal craft/hot rod because I just need to get it out of my head before I forget the details. I just need to get back some motivation that seems to have waned over the last couple of days.

After that, I believe I know what figure I'll work on first.

This offers a glimpse of what's in the future for me:

As for my fighter/hot rod, I'm borrowing a feature from this design that I found searching for "Fusion 360 Star Trek" when I started researching that Autodesk modeling software. That feature was the inspiration for what I'm working on. You'll see when I post it.

I know Nanjin likes movie Era Trek. I'm hoping he can do the research into the appropriate uniform material. His TOS products are incredible. I saw his line up of Kirk through to Sulu together this week and they look so cool!

I'd love to see quality 1:6-scale TOS Movie figs. :)

Did you get pics of that lineup?

I'll try and post a link later when I get on my pc. Kirk, Spock and possibly McCoy in TWoK uniforms are coming, allegedly with Saavik. Dubious that we'll get more than that.

The reason this is taking me so long is that I only had a vague idea of where I was going with this and I'm designing as I go. Lots of twiddly little vertex pushing going on.

That's awesome. I also noticed (as seems many others) that Scotty is...accurate. ;)

Oh, the ideas!
Yeah, the attention to detail on the these is astonishing, including equipment, right down to Shatner's fat suit. My one criticism to date, is that McCoy is too tall compared to Kirk and that's pretty minor.

Uhura is in development too. No sign of Chekov yet but the intention is to make him. Chapel might get a limited run if they decide to bring out Number One/Chapel/Lwaxana variants but I think that will depend very much on how well the line is selling at that point. I think Rand is a very outside chance, while Leslie and Kyle are less likely still. I've already ordered a custom Rand head with TMP hairstyle on the assumption that if the TOS is brought out, I can still get her without having two hairstyles the same.

There is a chance we might get the TWoK Captain's chair and maybe some TNG bridge accessories but I just love the TMP bridge :-P

TWOK is my favorite movie and bridge, but not my favorite chairs. That would be TMP.

THose are very tempting, for sure. I just don't know if I can do that size in this tiny house.

Nearly time to start on the details:

Believe it or not, they're curved. ;) It's subtle, but it's there, and about what my screen-accurate (physical from Roddenberry.com) pins are. It's difficult to see from that angle. Look at the bottom line of the Commander pins.
- Oh, yes! So they are. I can't believe I missed that - must have been overwhelmed by their shiny perfection!

LOL. Thanks. :)

Been a lazy day playing around with lighting. I needed to get rid of that conspicuously non-sci-fi background, so I took 'er outside:

Sorry for the nearly empty post...I had asked a question, but now I have my answer.

In other news, about to set up my FDM printer and get ready to do some playsets and accessories. :D

My new TOS chairs will swivel, unlike my Shapeways versions.

Spent the day tired off my...

Anyway, while I should have been finishing these models up for printing, I wasted time stumbling around in V-Ray. Since I couldn't use my Iray+ materials in V-Ray, I had to come up with new materials, and even though it's absolutely not canon, here's a faux-suede:
