Okay, I've gone and done it. Thank you all for waiting patiently.
Some time ago, which I now realize was 22 years back, the folks in this very Trek BBS forum suggested that, if I really thought I could write a better "Enterprise" series than the one we got, I should shut up and actually do it. I did the first part for quite awhile.
Just in the nick of time before you all got too busy with your grandkids, I managed to complete the assignment. Enterprise 2.0 is being posted nugget-at-a-time on AO3, and the first few acts are now live.
Enterprise 2.0 - Season 1 | Episode 1 'Beta One' | Acts I-II by D. F. Scott on AO3
I have written this not as a novel but a screenplay, or at least in the format of a screenplay. I wanted people who read this to imagine this as a television show, not as a scene that they are living out vicariously as one (or more) of the main characters.
For those of you who remain interested, "Chapter 2" of this premiere AO3 posting features a lot more background on what the show's about, why I chose to pursue it, and why I hope it's finally worthwhile after all this time.
