Scribble's scribbles

These are amazing. I've always liked the TWOK uniforms and rank insignia, even though they are a total departure from everything that came before and after. You've really done a great job with these.

Thank you.

I totally agree. They're my favorite uniform designs of all the series and movies. I could see perhaps some less formal duty wear (if we ignore the canon examples), but in my opinion, Robert Fletcher was a genius with everything about the "Monster Maroons".

Just waiting on a render and all of the Officer ranks are complete and awaiting people's opinions.

I'll get a closeup of that Commander Starfleet insignia next...

I kind of like the gold one better. The silver 4-pointed star in the middle offers better contrast at the middle of the bronze arrowheads, but that gold star really pops. Or is that just your rendering?

I'm seriously torn. I agree that the silver offers more contrast to the bronze and it also seems to bring out the silver ring in the back a little better than the gold star. The gold star sure does look nice, though.

As with the bronze arrowheads (I've been calling them flags), I almost figure that the Commander Starfleet's rank insignia can be a little understated. It's obvious that it's different from the rest of the admirals, and they're endowed with all sorts of power...so...the actual pin may be just a side benefit if you get what I'm saying.

When I make the physical pins, I'll create them in raw silver (not polished), polished brass, and raw bronze, to match the renders as closely as possible.

Opinion time again:

Then the senior Admirals:

Finally, should I continue and do the enlisted ranks, as well?

I need to make a few more adjustments per my conversation with Cyfa, but we're getting there:

The scale is off on these ones. I need to make them closer to the size of the Fletcher designs.

They are now the proper size, overall. I can think of one more significant change I want to make other than minor fiddly stuff:

Trying to decide if I'll have these printed in plastic or metal on Shapeways (with permission, of course).

I think I like Vice Admiral #1 best, and Admiral #2. Of course, I'll change my mind willy-nilly the more I look at them .
That final set of Alt-Trek insignia are exactly as I imagined them to be - thank you!! However, I did think of something after my last PM to you - I noticed the real ones are slightly convex (at least, they look like they are in screencaps). If they are, I imagine the slight curve helps them sit better on the sleeve (and to a lesser extant, the shoulder strap)? That's not your "significant change" is it?

Believe it or not, they're curved. ;) It's subtle, but it's there, and about what my screen-accurate (physical from Roddenberry.com) pins are. It's difficult to see from that angle. Look at the bottom line of the Commander pins.

I'd had something else in mind, but it turns out that it wouldn't work the way I was thinking, so I've dropped that idea.

Trying to decide where to go from here...continue with the enlisted Fletcher ranks, model some figures, or model some playsets...there's a "fighter" that I have in mind that could actually be presented as a personal craft if it were in the Trek universe. I wonder if I should work on that.

Whatever I decide, it will be with 3d printing in mind. Just about everything you see me model has printing in mind. :)

The TMP bridge is definitely big! I think I'd go for just the key stations as an opener, helm, navigation, captain's chair, and science station are good starters. Tubolift and comms are probably as far as you can take it unless you have a LOT of space. You need to fit in security and engineering stations, let alone getting all the way round to weapons control. Poor Chekov!

Six-feet wide is a pretty damn big "playset"!

One of the ideas I've had for various bridge presentations (displays, really) is to line the individual stations up mounted on a wall in the order as they are on the sets. Kind of like how they're presented on "The Star Trek Blueprints) from TMP or "The Enterprise Flight Manual" given to the actors to learn their stations.

I hadn't originally thought of doing anything for 1:6-scale figs, but I may be able to be persuaded. ;)
