My printers have been here for a while, but I haven't been able to set them up due to reasons.
My resin printer, still in its sealed box:
I'm pretty confident I can get all control panels done on this printer. As I said, it has a resolution of 47µm, which is .047mm. Not perfect, and certainly better exists, but with a minimal amount of cleanup, this printer should do just fine for small marts and buttons and controls. It's also the printer I plan on using for action figures.
My second printer is a Creality CR-10 (blue). Supposedly it has a minimum layer thickness of .05mm, but I would need to get a different nozzle than what it comes with. That one, as I mentioned, has a build volume of 300mmx300mmx400mm, or around 12"x12"x16". I'll do larger set pieces for action figures with this one. I need to perform a few upgrades on it like giving it a dual-z-axis and filament sensor, as well as adding automatic bed leveling and a mirror build surface.
As soon as I start earning some extra money with these printers I'll begin working on building an even bigger DIY printer and possibly a milling machine and lathe.
My chairs are definitely on the docket with these printers. The difference is that they'll be articulated (swivel), unlike the ones I have on Shapeways that are static.
I was only going to do AA/DST-style 1:10-scale figures as far as Trek goes, but it sounds like I may need to do some of the missing figs from the Playmates 4.5" line. I just wish I didn't hate their hip joints so much (spread wide!).
I'll have this house to myself soon. I know I've been saying that for a while, but now it's becoming a reality. My housemate will be moving out as soon as they can. I'm so ready for that as I get performance anxiety in front of anyone with whatever I'm doing, including modeling or drawing, so that has been the main reason for my lack of 3d work for the last several months. I expect stuff to come flying out once I no longer have that barrier.
My ULTIMATE goal with 3d modeling and printing is to do what some consider the impossible (or very improbable) and that's build a studio scale Refit Enterprise. Yup, 100-inches long. Eight-foot, four-inches with a four-foot saucer.
So, all that aside, can anyone suggest a good Trek Toys FB group or external forum?
