I don't know what the 'it' is either but Janeway didn't have the personal chip on her shoulder Burnham has. Burnham has too many issues. She's a misery guts.
None of which are because she's a woman of color.
I'd actually rather have the traumatized undiagnosed PTSD Burnham in charge of my ship than Janeway.

Sure. It's just that I really wouldn't want either of those two to be main characters of the show.

The first was in self-defense. As for the mutiny? Eh, it would have worked if not for that pesky human strength.
She'll get a commendation for original thinking when all is said and done. That's how Starfleet rolls.
I think that's part of my problem with her, this particular trope has been beaten to death on Trek.
Star Trek has taken beating dead horses to whole new levels at times. I don't care for Burnham either, she was a horribly written character in the first two episodes (not the actress's fault, mind you). The third episode she was slightly improved, she did smile once. Maybe twice. But her actions (plot wise) weren't nearly as insanely absurd and inconsistent like they were in the first two episodes.
I actually think "had a nervous breakdown because of childhood trauma and panicked" is what happened.
Have you never read about great leaders and the mistakes they've made?
