No one knows yet. It's been awfully quiet from Paramount about it. Hopefully, but it's not guaranteed.
Isn't Paramount in financial trouble?
Another question is should they do another one? Given the steady decline in turnout for the sequels, should they go back to Star Trek films as more of a niche and done on the relative cheap?

I don't know what to say (that would be a first!)
I mean, you definitely do have a point but I have no idea what would be the most logical course of action now. On one hand, I honestly think it would be a waste for paramount&Co to not do at least one more movie because they had been quite successful, still, and now with Discovery possibly being a success too they should take advantage of the renewed interest people have in trek and the new fans?
The problem is they can't wait too much. I also don't know if they need a bigger budget in order to be allowed to do more and be more on the level of other successful franchises, or maybe a smaller budget is more safe. Making the movies for a niche audience is not a good idea because it clearly isn't the goal of the studio, as they want to reach bigger audiences than just the fans the movies already have.
"Beyond" was definitely the best thematically and consistently, even making magic from Beastie Boys and Public Enemy songs and usually that sort of mixing feels out of place yet their nailed it... though certain scenes from ST2009 and ST:ID were also top notch (eh, not the magic blood or the KHAAAAAN regurgitation scenes, those were barrel scrapin' moments).
And Anton Yelchin, who was perfect as Chekov, also makes it harder to do.
Star Trek, IMHO, was always best on a weekly schedule with letting scripts breathe with their ideas. On the big screen, Trek has to be faster paced (though kudos to Generations and Insurrection for trying to do both). Especially nowadays. The pacing, which worked great for the 1980s movies, is likely too slow for audiences to re-adapt to unless they put in enough depth and empathy for the audience to cling to. And as much as the 80s Kirk movie era was, the 60s TV show had enough gaps in narrative style between small and big screen to allow big epic movie stuff - e.g. a mini-arc of Kirk risking career to get Spock's corpse just wasn't even thought of back then. Since then, the small screen has gotten more cinematic (and serialized with arcs), with the big screen more or less getting bugger budgets and being constrained because movie arcs like Trek II-IV/VI and all 800 Harry Potter films, which were also experimental (esp. Trek) and for which the Potter line decided to have "part one" and "part two" for its last movie... there's been "consumer backlash" or at least the audiences just didn't care for being strung along having to remember details for years until "the big reveal" is dealt with, especially if the underlying story didn't have enough grab to begin with (or even then). IMHO, YMMV.
I imagine there are plenty of reasons for people not going out to movies anymore, but even Andy Rooney was talking on some of that a couple decades ago. Probably more reasons since then... they should just make direct-to-streaming instead, I suppose?
Well, part of the reason for Beyond's drop off is Paramount botched the marketing. But if we have a Star Trek film with a $190M+ budget flop on a Nemesis scale, it will be shelved for a decade. Paramount execs are still looking at Star Trek like they did when Star Wars debuted. What do we have like that? We have this Star Trek thing. But Star Trek and Star Wars are not the same. I can't say how they're all that different these days. They both have tons of eye candy. Some humor. Sci fi in space. But for some reason, more casual viewers prefer Star Wars over Star Trek. I want to see Star Trek on the big screen. But I don't want it to continue to sacrifice what makes it different than Star Wars or Transformers for mass market appeal. I think smaller scale with a well crafted story will attract enough casual viewers and potential new fans is the better way to go. Can they do that with the reboot. I don't know.

Why do this? The rest of your post substantially addresses the topic, and would have stood perfectly well on its own.
This part, shoehorned into the middle, is just setting a vaguely adversarial tone which adds nothing of value. Try leaving it out instead.
Paramount should spend between $130-$150 mil on budget. Don't release it in July. Release it in a month with no competition, or be the first out of the gate in early May for the summer. Don't have a shit marketing campaign. And for god sakes don't make your first teaser trailer look like garbage. Beyond was great, but that first teaser was so horrible.

Presumably the new slate financier will have an opportunity to co-finance the Paramount-Skydance collaborations that include a revamped version of The Terminator, which Deadpool director Tim Miller is developing to direct with input from the franchise’s creator James Cameron, and another shot at the Star Trekfranchise, along with the coming Transformers spinoff Bumblebee and the rebirth of Top Gun. Gianopulos has a tall order in front of him to turn around the studio, but confidence in funding big pictures is key. It sounds like he’s about to get a shot of confidence.

Beyond's mrktg effort was pathetic combined with that piece of crap 1st trailer then 2nd not released until May????
Bring next movie out in May which coincidentally ST09 was released in and had good take. Plus mkt was solid
i've said this before, but they should've released beyond in september of 2016 where there was hardly any competition and it would've better coincided with the 50th anniversary celebration - not that there was much of one, thank you paramount and CBS corporate shenanigans.
i think a fall release date would be perfect for whatever future trek film is coming. fall is proving to be a great time for non-tentpole sci-fi - gravity, interstellar, now blade runner 2049.

Try to avoid December. At least on years when Disney releases Star Wars films.
there's a lot of confusion about that at the moment. but it's definitely not a property paramount is going to let languish. another film will be made, the question is simply what form it will take and when.
