I would like one of the black arrowhead badges we saw.
I just want the regular one, but with the little pips. They don't make them with the pips, alas.
I would like one of the black arrowhead badges we saw.
Because this isn't a typical episodic show with a typical pilot. We'll get to know the cast over time. I hate typical pilots because they feel SOOO contrived, with little intros for each characters that are so transperently written to encapsulate a character in one scene, "Hi, I'm Tasha Yar and i'm the tough as nails security officer." "Hi, I'm B'Lana Torres and i'm a half Klingon engineer with a chip on her shoulder."
This is a breath of fresh air. Without those intros I still felt like I was meeting fully formed characters, even if I didn't know them yet.
Feels as much like Star Trek as DS9 felt like TOS/TNG when it initially premiered, or as ENT did when it first aired. It's new and different, but still has enough of Trek's DNA to be recognizable to me.
The fact that it feels like "any other new sci-fi" probably speaks more to how much influence Trek has had on TV science fiction.
As for the app, I haven't had any problems, either on ROKU last week, or on my PS4 this week.
It ate one of the away team. It's always convenient to have a monster that's wreaked carnage offscreen but can't move fast enough to catch anyone...
There's something to be said for gradually fleshing out characters but they should at least be introduced early on.
Here the only character we know is Burnham, who got a great intro for most of the first ep before that was all undermined in a way that still doesn't make sense to me.
But certainly we should know more about the people than we do after three eps.
Redshirts are tasty. It ate one of the away team.
As far as how fans ACTUALLY feel about it, the poll up top speaks very clearly to the general consensus... and the poll on this site for "Battle At the Binary Stars" had 75% of respondents rating it a 7, 8, 9, or 10.
It ate one of the away team.
So when does Peter Weller show up?
Seriously.
We don't know much about Papa Marcus Prime. He could have easy been just as warmongery. (Since there's no evidence that Kelvin universe is anything like the Mirror.)
Oh, no I can honestly say that while this episode was very good, CBS All Access is still a pile of antiquated technology. Once again, I had to forego the Roku on my nice, big TV and watch it via Microsoft Edge, and in 480p on my PC. The All Access app is awful, CBS' delivery method is atrocious. I wish Netflix had control over this, as there wouldn't be any issues, and I'd be seeing the episode in 1080p on my Roku.
The DS9 pilot literally put humans where humans have ever been before.
So far all Discovery has done is put humans in a war (a place most humans have been before) and in a magic fairy dust box than the audience knows is never going to work.
I'm curious: Can someone vote "early and often" at Rotten Tomatoes, or from various IP addresses? That skews responses, of course.
What we saw of that first edition of the map in Lorca's office reminds me of material from ST: Star Charts.
