I interpreted that as needing stopping power in a hurry to try to save Georgiou. I sort of interpret the difference as taser versus gun. Do you risk stun not working when someone's murdering your captain? There's logic in switching to 'kill'.
Maybe you are right. I hadn't looked at it that way. And considering T'Kuvma lived long enough afterward to hold another speech I guess Burnham's assessment was right.

Yes - '24 hours behind'. Although I don't think quite a full 24, I think we'll get them in the morning like today.
This must especially suck for you guys who are moderating the forum and who don't live in the US. What with all the spoilers being posted. :(

Thanks for doing a wonderful job, @cultcross, @{ Emilia } and @Locutus of Bored!

I'm just seeing on Netflix that we will get the new episode on Monday! So will we always get the episode a “day” later than in the US? Kinda sucks, to be honest.

Well wah wah ;) Back in the old days...we waited quite alot longer for episodes!
And most of the time it never came on tv...
Had to buy VHS tapes and later DVD's.....forget about seeing anything on the tv in those days!

Just going to have to get over it :) I got up to watch today because I happened to be on rest days, but that won't be true most Mondays. I'll have to lump it and catch up in the evenings.

Yeah, I know. It's better than to wait months for new episodes to arrive here. But still, this is so close to being the first time Star Trek fans all over the globe could watch a new show simultaneously. But oh well, I'm sure some clause in the contract with Netflix prevents them from showing it earlier.

Yeah, that didn't work for me either. I appreciate that they are trying to do something new within the material, but this just doesn't ring true to the lore.
Couldn't someone say the same thing about katras when they were first introduced? "Spock can download himself into anyone he feels like just by saying one word and touching their face? Not my Trek!"

Yeah, you are right. I don't know, it just feels more far-fetched. I did like the scene, however. A good insight into the relationship between Sarek and Michael and much better than the earlier holo-conversation. A thought-talk across lightyears of distance just appears to be more fantasy than sci-fi to me.

True, but at least that was consistent with the idea that Vulcans were touch telepaths. This new Vulcan power expansion pack requires the laws of physics to be torn up. It isn't without precedent - Spock did feel a great disturbance in the force, as it were, when the Intrepid was destroyed. But actual useful FTL communication at a distance because your minds are linked, without any tech at all? Bullshit.

Sarek left part of his Katra in Picard, and Tuvok left part of his soul in Suder.

Did Vorik leave half his personality inside B'Elanna?

Was Voriks attraction to Tom Paris, why B'Elanna tracked that blond boy down and mated him into submission?

Lets not forget Spock sensing V'Ger entering the Galaxy.

Hmm? Maybe it was Spock's connection to the barrier, since Where no man has been before, which is why he noticed a thing 82 AU in diameter, crossing that membrane he was psionically tethered to?

Trip and Tpol has the same link and could talk to each other.

Sarek was only able to do it by physically mind-melding with Michael.

Plus, what of the distance between Spock and V'Ger? :)

V'Ger had those long legs that could traverse great distances.

And by long legs I mean those green electro-tentacle things.

Years ago, and a very long way away. I'd be fine with a 'remnant of his katra' being left behind if it was a bit like Head 6 from BSG, entirely contained within Michael's head, not the real Sarek communicating across light years somehow.

If it worked the same way, that too was silly. But I'm not convinced it did - we didn't see a two way real time conversation. Even if they were having one, you can at least infer tech like subspace dohickeys because V'Ger was a machine. What they are showing Sarek doing to Michael is entirely organic. That's just instantaneous FTL communication somehow evolved in Vulcan physiology without even a tech the tech explanation.

That was more about the emanating transmission power of V'Ger, than Spock being an acute receiver?
And yet none of the other Vulcans picked it up. That old lady Vulcan had to mind-meld with Spock before she knew what was going on.

I enjoyed both episodes. I think the second one was the better of the two.

The overwhelming negativity is enough to keep me away from talking about this show on message boards for the time being. I don't give a crap about Gene Roddenberry's legacy or 1966 aesthetics. I'm enjoying this new show and I'm going to do so on my own apparently.

As someone who also doesn't give a crap about Roddenberry's legacy or 1966 aesthetics because a show in 2017 shouldn't look anything like one from 50 years ago, I fully agree with you on these fronts.

But I've intentionally been avoiding Discovery spoilers and haven't seen the negativity you're referring to here, so much so that I ended a years long hiatus to read everyone's opinions and post my own. People here disagree but the vast majority of the time, they clearly explain why they feel that way which is a far cry from the rest of the internet (and the shitpool that is YouTube, for example). Avoiding message boards to avoid spoilers is probably a good idea, though.
