CHEKOV: Has there ever been a mutiny on a starship before?
SPOCK: Absolutely no record of such an occurrence, Ensign.
"Well, except for my sister that one time."
"What?!"
"We don't talk about her, Ensign."

And, I learned from an interview, that the third episode can be seen as a second pilot for the series, with us being introduced to the Discovery. Couldn't we have started with this episode, with us getting a summary of what transpired in the first two episodes?
PICARD: "Numbah One, as I recall, we were investigating an ancient Klingon vessel-"
RIKER: "Here we go!"
RIKER chuckles.
PICARD: "-and you had the brillllliant idea to call their bluff!"
RIKER: "I was acting in the best interests of the Federation!"
Deanna smirks; Geordi shakes his head and whistles.
SCENE TRANSITION.
She'd be charged with dereliction of duty, disobeying a direct order from a flag officer, and assaulting a senior officer. She'd be court martialed for sure, kicked out of the service, and probably have to do time. But mutiny is a pretty hard charge to make stick, especially in an isolated incident of an individual acting alone without greater malice.- I agree that the 'starting a war' charge was BS
BUT
- In addition to assaulting the Captain - she was also clearly going against the Captain's clearly stated order that she would not fire first. Had Burnham been more successful with her attempt at a neck pinch and had the crew successfully carry out Burnham's order to fire - EVEN IF that 'defused' the situation and no one on the Fed side dies; Burnham would still have been rightfully charged and convicted of Mutiny.
Fine, I won't mention my brother Piotr, either."Well, except for my sister that one time."
"What?!"
"We don't talk about her, Ensign."
It's not as bad here.Isn't it fun to see other perspectives even if you don't agree with them?
I think inf anything the testimony of Lt. Saru (who was pretty much the only bridge officer questioning her about if she was really following the orders/wishes of the Captain) would have been enough to make a mutiny charge stick. She didn't just disobey and order, she first assaulted her Captain directly with the intent of firing on a Klingon vessel <--- which was expressly against the orders of the Captain. She'd be charged with dereliction of duty, disobeying a direct order from a flag officer, and assaulting a senior officer. She'd be court martialed for sure, kicked out of the service, and probably have to do time. So how unhappy do you think Netflix is that they are getting 36 minute episodes for what was supposed to be a 50-60 minute show?
I'm going on the assumption there's foul play afoot and the ending was just too haphazardly thrown together. From the episode, she was charged with dereliction of duty, assaulting a fellow officer, and mutiny. For pleading guilty, she was stripped of rank and sentenced to life imprisonment. (Have the writers forgotten that in Star Trek's universe that criminals are rehabilitated?)
And spliced together they'd be just that.I was shocked the episodes were that short. This is a streaming service. They should be at least 50 minutes.
The execute people for visiting a forbidden planet too.The Federation throws people in jail for life??!
Go watch TOS - "The Menagerie" and see what the Federation Penalty is for visiting TALOS IV (The events of "The Cage" is just two years past)...I'll wait...From the episode, she was charged with dereliction of duty, assaulting a fellow officer, and mutiny. Which only strengthens my argument that they should have been one episode.
Spliced together, they'd be about 83 minutes long. Closer to 78 or so maybe with consideration toward opening and closing credits.
I think.
