The music on Star Trek Discovery

I've never heard that before either, and I definitely prefer the TMP one we ended up with. It's not bad, but like you guys said, it just feels to much like a cheesy '70s or '80s theme song.
^^^^
And that would have been HORRIBLE for a TV show that started production in 1987. ;)

It actually sounds like a particular cheesy 80s theme song because the composer, Dennis McCarthy, wrote the theme to this:

Not to be outdone, Bill Conti knocked off the Williams Superman theme for the show's spinoff:

Wow, Conti wasn't even subtle with the Superman rip off there.
That Dynasty theme is exactly the kind of theme I'm glad TNG didn't end up with.

I hope that wasn't it, because that's just generic as hell.
Yes, just like every other Star Trek spinoff series theme with the exception of TOS itself, TNG (which re-used the ST:TMP theme) and ENT (only because it was a cover of an actual song released previous to being used for ENT.)

I mean where ARE any real 'Star Trek' musical cues from the TOS for ST:TMP theme in either DS9's or VOY's main themes?

To each their own. It's more beautiful than I hoped. Very nice. It'll probably sound better without Kurtzman talking over it. :p

I'm not saying it was bad, it was fine. I'd give it a 7.5 on a scale of 10. Compared to First Contact or Generations original themes it's pretty lame though.

Like everything else we know about this show so far, we prejudge everything before we actually see any of it in action. The title scene, whatever that might be, with this music, could be really good.
