The music on Star Trek Discovery

To each their own. It's more beautiful than I hoped. Very nice. It'll probably sound better without Kurtzman talking over it. :p

Oh man, I was hoping that was the new narrative voiceover. It's a little bit of a shift from Patrick Stewart, but I was ready to roll with it.

Works for me. Somebody beat me to the Instagram version.
I think the problem lies in the fact that you posted a mobile link (presumably from the Facebook app) instead of sharing a proper link. I've noticed this problem with links you've shared in the pa

I like it. It's on the safe side, but it works.

I was just worried they were going to use a dumb pop rock song or something.

Well, on that front, I suppose THIS could have worked given ST: D's main story theme:

I love it..! Would have probably liked it a bit better if it had a more identifiable melody though... This is not something people are going to hum... But I do like the overall feel..!

I love the incorporation of the Courage theme here, and how the new sections are both evocative of previous Trek scores, yet something original. I like it a lot.

So it looks like they had the fanfare portion in the can for a while since it was on some of the promos!

But I'm always a sucker for those first few notes. Takes me back to watching TOS in reruns, first seeing the stars come up on screen for the narration.

I think agree with most people here. It's nothing as beautiful as Voyager's theme (my favorite btw), it's certainly a great theme. It sounds like there's some minor stylistic cues from Giacchino's theme from the Kelvin films, but it takes it in it's own direction. Someone on the official youtube video mentioned that the fanfare at the end (which seemed like an odd choice at first) was "intended to specifically represent the enterprise" but I'd argue that it makes sense if you consider this is leading up to TOS. Beautiful work, I'm looking forward to the other music in the series proper.

Keeping in mind that this video is raw orchestra, talked over, and lacks a visual association the other themes do, I'll currently rank my favorites this way:

1. STNG
2. TOS
3. DSC

Technically, the fanfare was written as a separate piece of music by Alexander Courage and was called, "Where No Man Has Gone Before". So actually, it can be used in any form of Trek since it calls to going out into the unknown.

And if you look on the first Leonard Nimoy LP, there is a piece of music using it as the center of a longer bit of music. Redundant and not amazing but fine, it has this title as well.

It's good, but overall I find it underwhelming. A good theme song should be hummable. This one... it's more atmospheric-type music during the portions not quoting Alexander Courage's theme.
