The biggest problems with both Voyager and Enterprise was the kneejerk changes from one season to another as they desperately tried to change the formula to increase ratings. They didn't have the courage of their convictions or believe in the premise.I'm sure they can always make something really bad, but I don't think DSC is going to be bad. I actually put VOY at the bottom of the previous shows. I think they wasted a lot of potential with that show.
So Voyager more or less forgets about the Maquis after the first season and turns into TNG-lite until they reinvent it again with Seven of Nine.
Enterprise pootles around for a couple of seasons with no direction, save for the half-baked temporal cold war arc, before reinventing itself as 24 in space in season three, and fanwank in season four. Then it got cancelled.
Discovery seems to know what it wants to do and is telling a broader story which has been established from the outset. I think it'll be more cohesive at least, which should be a good thing.
