What was incoherent about? Did I miss something?

You didn't miss anything, that's kind of the point.
If you've followed production news and are familiar with ST, you know who Sarek and Mudd are, that Yeoh and Isaacs are captains of two different ships, how the story begins, Burnham's backstory and so on... so you can fit all that is said and seen in this trailer into the stuff you already know.

If you don't already have that information, this is a trailer with some pretty pictures, vague dialogue, a bunch of explosions and some guy saying he's not mad, he's mud

I thought it was funny. This version of Mudd seems more interesting and less annoying than the original.
That I'll grant. I'm less put off by the idea than I was before (although still, Sarek and Mudd? That's not even Small Universe, that's bloody Remember Me bubbleverse) but that line scored a 7.5 on the cheesiness scale for me. Plus it relies on you knowing who Mudd is to work, which isn't a great idea to attract new viewers.

No pictures, just a name: William Ware Theiss. That should explain everything. Just in case it doesn't:
*Da Trek babes*

...I'll be in my bunk.

But seriously, i'm so jazzed.

Try engineering during the first attack for starters. They're all wearing oxygen masks, but they wouldn't be necessary if there were forcefields keeping engineering airtight.

Tough sell. Engineering was under direct attack and ships power was being drastically disrupted. Sulu couldn't get power to shields or phasers. They couldn't even manuever away at impulse power after the initial phaser attack. Systems could have been completely cut off to enable forcefields.

Star Trek VI, why run down exploding corridors, sealing them off at a junction after the saucer is breached if everything's being held together nicely by forcefields?

When did that happen? Excelsior took a hit to the saucer, and we see all the panic inside the ship after that, with something venting gas, but there's no indication of an actual breach.

In TOS, forcefields had big obvious emitters around the brig doors. The DSC kind are more like those of TNG, which can be magically summoned anywhere in the ship. One of the hull breach scenes in the trailer is reminiscent of the breach on the bridge in Nemesis and another is like the bit where Data jumps between ships.

To be fair here, we also here in TOS at least on one or two occasions (I want to say Day of the Dove and Doomsday Machine) References to sealing off hull ruptures with bulkheads. No forcefields are mentioned. Though that doesn't mean they weren't an option.

This is like arguing why "The Cage" had a paper printer when DSC has 3D holograms.

If this is Prime Universe, it is so in very broad strokes only. But that's okay! Just dont pretentend its 100% faithful to the technology and world as imagined before.

True enough. :)

it looks like a movie, like a non TOS/TNG Trek film has been made but with a new 'movie cast' with movie actors as captains (Yeoh/Isaacs). like how I imagined 'Star Trek The Beginning' wouldve been

Oh, for sure, force fields were used many times in TOS, but I think the context of the question was whether they were used in that way - as a replacement for a hull breach.

i can't really think of an instance where there was a hull breach in TOS that would have warranted it. In TWOK, one could argue that if a breach occurred and the field didn't kick in, it was because Khan "knew exactly where to hit us" (and disabled it).

Lastly, there IS a hull breach in TUC, where Chang's torpedo passed right through the primary hull. People don't seem like they're in a decompressed ship, though, so presumably there were force fields operating somewhere.

Try engineering during the first attack for starters. They're all wearing oxygen masks, but they wouldn't be necessary if there were forcefields keeping engineering airtight.

If the hull is breached to the vacuum, then those little O2 masks aren't going to do much for them suffering from massive decompression.

Star Trek VI, why run down exploding corridors, sealing them off at a junction after the saucer is breached if everything's being held together nicely by forcefields?

The force field holds the air inside, it doesn't miraculously save the ship from suffering secondary structural damage. If I designed a ship, I would make sure that EVEN if there is a field covering the external damage, I'd also have a secondary system to protect the inner parts from this damage.

Even more excited for DSC after seeing the second trailer. Absolutely loved it!

Those new (or should I say old?) Klingon ships appear have this ancient (Egyptian) aesthetic to them which falls in line with their clothing. At some point we see a fly-by of some type of raider and to me it reminded me of the Death Glider, the Goa’uld fighter from Stargate SG-1.

I know, I just find them corny and wooden...As well as inaccurate ;)

Yeah, a lot of the trailers back in the 80's and 90's were bleeding awful. Makes you appreciate modern trailers a lot more, even if they do all have similar structure. :P

I've noticed that most of the designs seem to be very "flat", compared to the Connie / Excelsior type structure (i.e. the DIS ships don't have as structurally separated secondary hulls).

I was referring to all the ships Federation, and Klingon, that are seen in the trailer, when referring to fantastic starship designs: but yes, I've also noticed this in the Federation designs we've seen (thus far). I quite like the flatness of the USS Discovery starship myself, purely for how it looks.

Will be interesting to see what other varieties of Federation starships there are during this era...

Yep, like NX-01 and the Franklin and other canonical pre-TOS ship designs we've seen.

All in all a great trailer! I am a bit disappointed that they seemingly are using pulse phasers. With some exceptions like the Defiant, the beam weapons have been a trademark of Star Trek. These pulses seem more like generic Sci fi.

Also, someone yank the color blue from them. Blue uniforms, blue lighting, blue force fields, oh my.

Is it my imagination or is Burnham's hair totally different in different scenes? It might be a minor point, but it must have been done on purpose.
My guess is that she has straight hair in the past on the Shenzhou and curly hair in the “present” on the Discovery. Not sure how the science uniform she's wearing at some point is playing into it.

So the question is which trailer do you all prefer, STD or the new Orville trailer
Easily the Discovery trailer. Orville looks nice and all, but none of the jokes are really funny and it doesn't look like it will try to tell a story about something.

I have the same impression. This does look more like a movie than a TV series which really makes me very excited to see it.

It doesn't look like the Prime Timeline. Now this Trailer makes me think it doesn't look anything like the Reboots too. And that's a good thing. I like the fact that they are pursuing their own aesthetic. Discovery looks like an eye candy so far, absolutely beautiful.

And the storyline seems very interesting. As someone who enjoyed DS9 quite a bit, it's nice to see intrigues on a foreign Empire as center stage for the Series and a main protagonist with a very intense backstory. I'm very curious on how Burnham was hurt on a Vulcan Learning Center like that. Is it an accident ? An attack ?
