If someone here watches DSC and is disappointed by it, it's their prerogative to not watch it anymore. I am fully aware that DSC may ultimately prove not to be to my liking, but since I don't know that yet, I'm willing to take a chance on it. I'm willing to give DSC a chance to succeed or fail on its own merits, not some preconceived notion too ill-informed to be reliable.

Honestly, what are people so afraid of? Is it the fear of change? Are they afraid of Star Trek becoming something they think it shouldn't be? Are they afraid that if Star Trek changes and they don't change with it, they'll be left behind? Are they afraid of Star Trek becoming "not theirs anymore"?

I would sincerely love an answer. I have my own theories, but I'd love to hear others opinions.

It looks like we're going to see the Vulcan school Spock went to in ST09 with the domes in the floor:

The very next shot is of Sarek and young Burnham, so it would seem there's some sort of disaster on Vulcan which is when her parents are killed.

I love JJ Trek and I even like ENT. Hell I think Star Trek didn't become something special until Roddenberry loss direct control over the franchise. I supported prequel reboot, though I did want something closer to the very early years after the creation of the Federation. I simply haven't been compelled by the trailers and by any interviews given from cast or crew. I also find the Ralph McQuarrie esq design to be ugly but I hope I will be proven wrong and the show wows me. I've largely enjoyed Star Trek for around 22 years+ and want to keep enjoying it.

God those trailers are awful and the voice over guys were given some downright dodgy and in some cases false lines to read.

The same people who claim JJ Trek is too action based, while ignoring Kirk acting like a TV James Bond in TOS, fighting everything in sight

Even Roddenberry seemed to forget his own work, talking about how humanity aren't violent in the 23rd century but TOS is full of aggressive behaviour from the crew even when it's not necessarily called for.
Yep. When people start with that dross, I like to drop these gems:

When I first saw the Klingon ship designs I hated them. When I first saw the Klingons in the leaked photos I hated it and searched for justification. When we had our first news from the mouth of Fuller I was searching for justification but I wasn't against anymore. When I first saw the casting news I found them strange. Than the first trailer came and I like it but I was still making up justifications in my mind: yeah, those are probably ancient Klingons, yeah, the show could look this if it is a between step between the NX-01 and the NCC-1701 from TOS. Now I don't care. Just bring it on. Those Klingon ships looks awesome now, so what if Burnham is Spock's adopted sister and we didn't hear about her, the show looks awesome and the characters look awesome. If the story is right and there is real character development this will be awesome. And it really looks like the writers do want to tell a good character story so everything is looking good. Yeah, I got a little bit of BSG vibe, but the rebooted BSG is my favorite show beside Star Trek so I don't mind. If they will tell some character stories like BSG this will be amazing. Welcome Star Trek to the XXI century

You know I thinks there's also something else going on besides the conflict with the Klingons. The trailer does seem to hint at that.

How? I can't think of any time in TWOK that an air containment forcefield would have changed anything. If anything, it would explain how so much could get shot up in the engineering section without opening that huge room to space.
Try engineering during the first attack for starters. They're all wearing oxygen masks, but they wouldn't be necessary if there were forcefields keeping engineering airtight.

Star Trek VI, why run down exploding corridors, sealing them off at a junction after the saucer is breached if everything's being held together nicely by forcefields?

In TOS, forcefields had big obvious emitters around the brig doors. The DSC kind are more like those of TNG, which can be magically summoned anywhere in the ship. One of the hull breach scenes in the trailer is reminiscent of the breach on the bridge in Nemesis and another is like the bit where Data jumps between ships.

This is like arguing why "The Cage" had a paper printer when DSC has 3D holograms.

If this is Prime Universe, it is so in very broad strokes only. But that's okay! Just dont pretentend its 100% faithful to the technology and world as imagined before.

Did people suddenly forget how trailers work? Just because the trailer features a certain type of song doesn't mean that's how the show's music will be handled.

I happened to think the song meshed particularly well with the events in the trailer. But then I've liked Jetta's take on I'd Love to Change the World since it was used to great effect in Episode 4x01 of Person of Interest.
It was also used in trailers for Terminator: Genisys and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, iirc

How is Janeway one of the most respected Captain's in "the" Starfleet (in the ), when Voyager is her first command.

I know, I just find them corny and wooden...As well as inaccurate ;)

This should probably serve as a cautionary tale for reading too much into the Discovery trailer!

The trailer doesn't actually have much 'pew pew' at all, but it is cut to imply an action adventure show with some added philosophising, which Star Trek had always been. I'm imagining the real show will have a lot more talking, people working on consoles, staring moodily out of windows into space, and drinking out of oddly shaped glasses. Because that's what Star Trek does when it's not in a Trailerable Moment.

This trailer, for me, was very similar to the last. I'm not seeing much difference in tone or reveal, with only a few new titbits of information, largely from analysing screenshots. That said, I got a good vibe from it and I'm excited to see what they've done with it. The desert scene still looks fantastic (I hope the Delta in the sand was added for the trailer...), the transporter effect is great, loved the little forcefield brig, nice to hear Lorca, there's a Tenth Doctor vibe to parts of it ("Run!!"), SMG got more to do this time, the exterior shots are done really well and the Klingons look so much more organic and less Biker Gang from Space than the old ones.

Had some cons too - whoever wrote that mad/Mudd line needs sending to Rura Penthe for the rest of their natural life. I'm not thrilled by the idea of another war plot, but I'm willing to wait and see how this plays out - comments at Comic Con suggest maybe we see more of a traditional Star Trek resolution than a full blown space war again.

Overall, still excited, still keen to see the real thing, and some fascinating new gems to debate. A- same score as last time :)
