Jodie Whittaker is the 13th Doctor

I'm not completely sold on a female doctor but I want to give it a chance. Besides do you know how huge Doctor Who would be if Russell Crowe was Doctor Who.

It'd be massive if Justin Bieber landed the role but I'd definitely give that a miss! Anyway, I've said I'd give a non-Brit-accented Doctor a chance but I remain of the view that the character is fundamentally a British alien.

caving to Political correctness pressures

I have already addressed this here:

Uh, yeah, because audiences are tired of seeing white men in almost every protagonist role. It bores people.
That's not PC pressure, that's just audience preferences based on people living in diverse societies that they expect to be represented in media, too.

In a world where most people realize that diversity is part of everyday life and women aren't just "sidekicks" or "love interests", it'd be irritating to keep making the Doctor a white man when that is absolutely not needed for his/her character or the stories he/she is in.

This isn't political correctness. It's about audiences finding it unrealistic when TV shows misrepresent society by ignoring diversity or casting white men in every hero role even when it's not necessary (see: The Doctor). We get bored of it and it irritates us.

Your lengthy post in relation to the article I posted implies otherwise.

I did everything the post said, then disagreed with the silly bit in it, that was divisive playground nonsense. Am pretty sure you just count lines at this point, on that post at least.

Wow, sounds like some people then have a HUGE chip on their shoulder.. it's a TV show. not a politically motivated Document or politician that controls your life. doctor who has always been diverse.. but the main character apparently has to be included in that lest others go into meltdown like a snowflake.

What's all this nonsense about the Doctor having a British accent?

The Doctor does not have a British accent. The Doctor has an alien accent that just happens to sound like a British accent.

Then the doctor, when he appears white and male, is actually not white and male, but actually an alien that just appears white and male. He therefore represents diversity by definition.

That's the problem when you pull out a scorecard on a show that was conceived a half century ago. It was designed to be ethno-centrically british without any explanation or apologies.

I find it rather odd that you're associating this almost exclusively with men when the "wise old woman/grandmother" trope recurs frequently in media.

And I don't like the word "homosexual," but it's based on Latin and is an accurate descriptor. Grow up.
Is that one of those post not the post moments? I discussed it linguistically as an aside.

That would be true for urban areas like London. Most of the UK is pretty white. America too.

There's a nice bit in the books where it's revealed his body is basically just a shadow of a n dimensional form. They touch on that in the series too.

People said the same thing about every new Doctor. You never know the Beeb might work especially with a Doctor/Clara ship they want to drive down our throat.

This debate is becoming increasingly different from the one we began, not to mention increasingly hypothetical. I've clarified my original post several times now.

I'd agree. Unlike gender, I do think the Britishness is an integral part of the show's charm.
You could of course cast a Pakistani immigrant in the role because that's Britain, too. ;)

I note this in all earnestness, no sarcasm. It's great a common ground can be found. You liked Super's thought on the matter and he, in turn "liked" your post.

I mean, can one imagine the atrocity of a doctor patterning his behavior and speech patterns after those of the American "Deep South"?! And I don't mean the look and air of a "Southern Gentleman" (imagine Colonel Sanders), I mean the stereotype of a southern "redneck". Just to be clear, I live in south Georgia, about as south as one can get without crossing the state line into Florida, and even I shudder tat that notion. (Though it would be funny to see the TARDIS appear as a 19th century rural outhouse, even as a one-off gag.)

My point is Doctor Who fans should give any change whether gender or nationality a chance. A French doctor would be pretty interesting.

Why? The most liberal person I know called himself a Southern "Redneck". His mom was a member of the Daughter's of Confederacy and his Grandfather was in the KKK. He was getting a physics degree and his girlfriend was non-white. Personally if the Doctor had a Texas draw and ran around looking like Doc Holiday, it would be AWESOME.

You are unaware of The Daily Mash then?

I'm a Francophile who is currently holidaying in south-west France. However, I can imagine no circumstances in which the BBC would cast a French actor as the Doctor and that's before one even considers Brexit and freedom of movement. So again, we're having a debate which is verging from hypothetical to fantastical.

I know they'd never do it, but a line of portraits with the Bond's all altered to have the Gallifreyan robes/headdress would be an interesting joke to see the fans react to.

Again in the books..xD....there is a joke that mi6 also has a time lord working for them.
