Jodie Whittaker is the 13th Doctor

But a female or non-white Doctor would have the same problem.

I don't agree at all. I think the Doctor's always been very much an asexual character whose skin colour has never been important. However, to date, there's always been a very British eccentricity, sense of humour, even his dress sense has usually been quite anglocentric.

I disagree, look at Christopher Eccleston. It was modern and not very eccentric. Also it looks like they aren't going to crazy with the look of the new Doctor like they did with the Master.

But Chris was still very english and his Doctor had a very abrasive English/British sense of humour (I'll grant you the dress sense). We don't know what they'll do with Jodie's outfit but she's still a distinctively English/British actress.

I'm not even British myself, so I've no dog in this fight but if the Doctor suddenly was played by Ryan Gosling or Russell Crowe using their own accent, it just wouldn't feel right to me.

Obviously one never knows until one sees the real thing and I will give anyone a chance to persuade me as The Doctor But just as I think the LOTR or Harry Potter films wouldn't have been as authentic as had e.g. Spielberg made them and everyone sounded American (Hogwarts in the Midwest or whatever), I think DW feels more like itself with a British lead actor and would lose some of itself if he or she suddenly sounded like they'd walked off the set of an American drama.

The Doctor Has to be either British, Scottish, or Irish (I would include in there Welsch) but that is the inherent charm of the show, it is Brit culture in space, always has been, the logo is a British Police box.

I'd agree. Unlike gender, I do think the Britishness is an integral part of the show's charme.
You could of course cast a Pakistani immigrant in the role because that's Britain, too. ;)

I'm not completely sold on a female doctor but I want to give it a chance. Besides do you know how huge Doctor Who would be if Russell Crowe was Doctor Who.

Red Dwarf - Legion: "Broadcast on all known frequencies and in all known languages, including Welsh". Even the British know the Welsh are aliens.

Americans were once British. Actually according to linguist, our New England accent is the original British accent. Plus there are other advantages, maybe instead of London, the Doctor hangs around NYC. He would confirm with the American president and the US military (which would make more sense then talking to the PM when it comes to alien invasions).

Plus if the BBC would wake up, they could partner up with Netflix or Hulu

Well honestly, taking a step back, and seeing the big picture, they Have to do the female doctor now, whether I wanted the first non-colour male actor taking over or Not with Richard. After seeing what is coming for Star Wars, the rating situation and disillusionment of many fans of the show recently, it may be just the thing to ride the wave so to speak off what is perceived as a move coming in Star Wars. It is a big gamble. It does have it's downfall to look towards as well with what happened with Ghostbusters remake. I understand the business decision tho. They tried with Bill.. they tried with Clara, they had one thing they have been resisting.. and now, the time may be right given the cross over of scifi fans over the fall, with Star Wars hitting, this move in casting could be a helpful ratings booster. However, it does smack a bit of disingenuously moving towards the first female doctor for diversity reasons, and more for Ratings, and caving to Political correctness pressures. when they say, it's time, yes.. It's time to get the ratings out of the tank, and ride the coattails of Star Wars over the winter.. perfect timing.. It makes financial sense.

But if they are going to give us a female doctor tho, give us dying hetero men a brash cool character to root for too, I would love to see them bring out for the first time, Absolum Daak Dalek Killer as a companion like how he has been in the 11th comics (similar to how the Doctor Tamed Leela). That would be fun!

Well technically the Doctor could join the MCU as the comic rights were once owned by Marvel. OMG that would blow my mind if Doctor Who was in Infinity War.
