Quibble: I'd say 10 of 12 times - The Seventh Doctor was cancelled, and the Eighth Doctor wasn't picked up for a full series.

    1. Well it's about time - now can we have an American/Canadian/Australian Doctor
    2. Have no problem with a female doctor. They pulled of a female Master brilliantly
    3. My only concern, no SJW nonsense. The Doctor should be portrayed as gender neutral.
    4. I also feel this is stunt casting but it is what it is
    5. People should be more angry that Clara is coming back.

I'm not. Let's see if I can get it right this time, maybe get a lawyer to parse it.

The Doctor, as a male, exhibits traits of a wise caring guardian. Not all males exhibit those traits (see: The Master, denizens of TNZ).

Those traits are not exclusively male.

    Clear now?

Maybe I could have been clearer, maybe assumptions were made about me.

This is great news. I haven't seen her in anything but she sold me in the reveal video despite its brevity. Can't wait to see her in the role!

Now I just how Chibnall and Co. have their act together in terms of writing!

    No :ouch:

In all seriousness, I'm not sure the BBC would go down that route, they'll no doubt cast white and actors of colour from the British Isles, but I can't see one outside of the five nations of the British Isles being cast. Maybe Doctor XIV could be Ruth Negga or Alexander Siddig.

They can cast the Doctor outside the British Isles no problem, after all James Bond has been English twice, Irish, Welsh, Scottish and Australian, all playing the same role, and it would be suitable payback for all those British actors going to America and putting on "pitch perfect American accents" and nabbing all the juicy roles. They just have to put on a convincing accent from somewhere in the UK. James Marsters for the Doctor, Gillian Anderson?

It's been limping along with a white male Doctor, so the gender of the lead obviously has nothing to do with it.

Are you counting Cornwall in that 5? The wonders of vandalism on Rick Stein restaurants.

Only one of those countries you listed are outside of the British Isles and we all know how that turned out for the franchise.

Well, it's not our fault American casting directors like them because of the better training and the like.

Well, Anderson was born in England.

    I guess it's six then!

And just for clarities sake, I was counting England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland that are the five countries that make up the clustering of islands off North West(ish) Europe.

I'm not certain, my brother-in-law was telling me it was counted as a nation in the civil war but probably only by Mebyon Kernow.

Modern revisionism often cites OHMSS as one of the best of the franchise, it's the same way a lot of people look more kindly on the Baker (C), and McCoy eras now than they did when those shows were aired. The reality of it is down to money. The BBC as a public corporation can't pay private sector rates for productions, so while UK based actors can commit for the prestige of the role, the exposure that it will bring, can you imagine trying to attract a US name actor at BBC salaries?

"We can go as far as £500,000"
    "An episode?"
    "No, for the whole season."

It still does my head in that Matt LeBlanc did Episodes, although I guess that's a US-UK co-production. And he signed up for Top Gear!

Tamsin Grieg! That's the other Doctor candidate that was mentioned a few pages back!

To be honest, Wessex was a Kingdom way back when and the English Civil war was how long ago? But no, it's not a country and if I remember rightly (and this I know is not your fault) one of the poorest regions in Western Europe and yet voted to leave the EU regardless of how much cash the county gets from Brussels.

Is the movement to break away from the UK anything but a few locals drunk on the local scumpy?

I watched it once, years ago, I can't honestly say I like any of the Bonds before Dalton.

Did you start Bond by reading the books first? Dalton is pretty much "Book Bond".

Nope, apart from buying Casino Royale as a present for a sibling years ago, I've not touched any of them.

Mebyon Kernow want a Cornish Assembly and proper devolution. Fuck knows about the Cornish Liberation Army but they recently did some acts of vandalism on Rick Stein and Jamie Oliver's restaurants and put out a message saying they have members ready for the ultimate sacrifice. And everyone batted an eyelid and went on. And yes, Cornwall along with the Welsh valleys are the poorest areas in Northern Europe.

Back to topic Jethro for the next next Doctor.

OHMSS is a great Bond film; it's a common misconception that it flopped. It performed poorer than its predecessor, You Only Live Twice, but was still successful enough that Cubby Broccoli & Eon productions wanted Lazenby back. Sadly, the big lunk allowed his head to be turned by counterculture friends who persuaded him that 007 was passé and he didn't need it to succeed. And we all know how that turned out. Anyway, I digress!

I quite like James Marsters, but his British accent? Nope.

In fairness we are talking about a talent drain from the UK to the US, not the UK getting the US's dregs.....

Wessex being a deprived area isn't @Bob The Skutter's fault? That's very understanding of you :)

Nah, Craig is much closer for me.

^Craig is a better actor than Dalton and got better scripts, IMHO. Anyway, I digress again.
