Next! Your choice for the next Doctor.

IIRC, they sometimes describe him wearing a different coat in them. Actually, even some novels do that, too.
That was supposed to be a joke. I actually don't listen to the audio adventures but, if I did, I'm sure the multicolored coat wouldn't bother me as much in them. It actually seems kind of funny if they did change the "look" of the coat for audio!

Although, honestly, after seeing the multicolored coat so many times over the decades, I actually don't really notice it much anymore. And, I agree that in person it's not as bad as on-screen. The colors aren't quite so garish in person.

It just seemed to me that after Tom Baker left, the outfits became more and more part of the Doctor's character, as if to recapture the association everyone had with the scarf.. And frankly to me, they became a distraction. I loved Davison's outfit, sans the celery sprig... The cricket outfit was nice and casual... But the celery? Seriously? I know it served a sort of purpose, but still.. Then Colin's multi-color dreamcoat.. I just found it completely took him out of character..

Yes, the modern incarnations have had their quirks... The converse tennies on DT, the bowtie and (occassional) fez on MS... Frankly, I've loved Capadi's rotation of outfits.. Muted colors, stylish yet not toooo hip...

While the clothes help make the man, they should not BE the man (or woman).. Just MHO, of course... I still wish I had a TB scarf. :)

If JNT hadn't been there, there wouldn't have been any DW. Apparently, there was no one else who was passionate about the series and wanted to take it over. Hence, the BBC told JNT that if he left, the show ends.

Well, that connects to the jackass who was in charge of the BBC, doesn't it? With someone in charge who didn't hate Doctor Who (and apparently SciFi in general, based on comments of his I've seen/heard), Doctor Who wouldn't have been in such poor shape and someone else might have actually wanted to take it over. It seems like the complete lack of budget (even moreso then in the show's past) and the fact that the show was disliked by the guy in charge of the BBC is what made working on Doctor Who an undesirable position, from what I've read/videos I've seen over the years. So if Michael grade hadn't been around, there would probably have been a good chance of the show continuing or at least doing better.

At least according to various things I've seen/read about the fall of classic Doctor Who.

You should have witnessed what happened upon the various DW boards when the first Peter Davison action by Character Options was released! It quickly became known as "celery-gate". If I correctly recall, the person who spearheaded the release of "classic era" Doctor Who figures, Alister Dewer, was not the biggest fan of the John Nathan Turner era. When he approved of the Davison Doctor, he took it upon himself to make some creative "edits". The figure was initially released WITHOUT a celery sprig and the collectors "rioted"! It was a madhouse for months as fans expressed concern over Dewer's decision and his cavalier, almost "f*** you!" attitude. Despite his initial decision, he realized he let personal bias influence result in a flawed business decision. Later variants were sold with the sprig, but his decision to omit the vegetable resulted in "bad blood" that has lingered between the fans and him until this very day. Anything he has done since then, no matter how great has been met with suspicion.

Not surprising. Looks like they'll announce around the same time frame as Capaldi was announced.

Of course it could be the case that the person couldn't shoot the scene yet as they're currently working on something else. Like the "Han Solo" movie, for a completely random example. ;)

I'm not ruling out a Comic Con announcement just yet. No, I'm not basing that on anything substantial, just idle speculation.

Talking about outfits reminds me that I'm so happy that they didn't let Capaldi walk around in his Saturday lounge clothes in Series 10. He actually dressed like The Doctor, instead of dressing like it was Saturday morning and he was planning to spend the day on the couch. Between that and those stupid Sonic Glasses replaced by a proper screw driver, he really felt like a proper Doctor in Series 10. Hopefully the 13th Doctor won't go through a similar "Thrift Shop clothes" phase.

How about a story where the Doctors regeneration goes wrong and his face (and personallity) changes back and forth between Capaldi's and the new doctor or something like that.

I think it would be pretty awesome to have the doctor do a slow walk or speech while he regenerates.

Twelve- What I think this world needs is a......

*Body slowly morphs*

Thirteen- ......Is a doctor. I'm sorry. What was I saying?

*Roll end credits*

I've never seen a more inconsistent Doctor Who wardrobe decision than I have with Capaldi.

He practically dropped his debut outfit by episode 3 of his first year. In "Listen" he's wearing loose clothing and a shirt with holes it in.
