Next! Your choice for the next Doctor.

You'd think it'd occur to the Beeb, after what happened last time, to have a fund for making fake bets to disguise the truth.

Last rumination on the matter before we know who the new Doctor is, and the internet devolves into a riot: It's going to devolve into a riot whatever happens. Instead of just wondering who we'll be watching after Xmas, and looking forward to their first episode, half of the viewers will be complaining that it wasn't who they wanted/expected/would tolerate, regardless of who is. None of which is helped by the way the discussion over a female Doctor has gone during Moffat's era- clearly by this point there's no reason why there shouldn't be one, but if there is there'll always a question over whether it's just felt obligatory as a toke after all the talk, and if there isn't, the Beeb/Chibnall will be accused of running scared/being misogynist.

Damned either way.

The Beeb want safe to keep the ratings, Chibnall wants a new tone - will a male or female be the reinvigorating way, and which will be the dangerous gamble?

Damned either way.

All things considered, I just want to be looking forward to whoever's first episode, to see how they'll do, personality-wise. Instead we'll all be second guessing why they were cast and (if female) whether we can trust the writers to get the new thing right. (Which wouldn't be an issue if this was going to be the *second* female Doctor, but, in my head, is down entirely to Moffat's handling of his female characters, especially certain Time Lord Generals.)

Damned either way.

I guess what it means is we'd all be much happier if there'd had been a female Doctor (properly, for a normal TV season) before, then none of us would be having this conversation, whethr she had been any good or not.

Because I don't think we'll return to a normal "just waiting to see who the next person is" mode until the first female Doctor leaves the show... And that's so wearing and such a shame.

I hear you. And I think your right.
To me the shame lies on those fans who resist change.

Once this barrier falls, then the possibility of who the Doctor can be opens up dramatically.

Just been looking on imdb at what she has done before because it feels like I've seen her in a lot of stuff. Going off that though, they only mention Daziel (and possibly one episode of The Smoke), that I've actually seen.

Looking forward to see how she portrays the role though:)
