Why does skipping to chapter 2 on the dvd's take you several minutes past the opening title?

On all the other Trek episode dvd's, chapter 2 always starts once the end credits finish and the opening title comes up. Only a tiny minority of ds9 episodes do this.

Because that's how they made them. I'd argue it's not a tiny minority, but whatever...it's still a bummer.

I wonder how hard it would be to rip the episodes in the DVD drive in my computer, add chapter marks at the end of the opening credits, and then burn my own copies to play on my DVD player.

MASH does that too, with the disks for season 6 and later. It's very annoying.

You think that's bad, pick up The Straight Story on DVD. David Lynch specifically ordered that it have NO chapter stops whatsoever.

How about why are lots of mine scratched and skip stuff?
They look fine but, forget about it! Some of them skip the entire episode.
You want to trade?

I have the entire DS9 series on regular DVDs.
It's like a box set.
When I look at the DVD there doesn't appear to be scratches, but when I try to watch some of them, it makes me cry.......

^ When I look at the packaging for the DS9 DVDs, that's what makes me cry.

And the fact that we'll probably never get BluRays. :wah:

Probably Disc rot, I have the same issue.

Regarding the OP, that has always bothered me. TNG had the same issue on some episodes, I think (bluray fixed it though). On the other hand, I think Voyager doesn't suffer from this.

One more reason the series needs to be remastered! (I wish...)

I have the same problem with some of my DVDs from the DS9 set. It seems to be imperfections or small chips in the center piece causing the problem rather than scratches on the disc.

Interesting.
Because I never could see scratches on the DVds
There might be one that is scratched, but it is very annoying.
