The word "determined" implies a specific decision. So I'd have to say they were engineered.
Not necessarily. It can be something instinctive of natural origin.

Not like TOS and TMP's Klingon's were entirely similaroh yeah, those Klingons
Oh yeah, that sure looks like a "true prequel" to TOS set in the Prime universe - I mean, with those ships and sets and uniforms and that style and - oh yeah, those Klingons - whatever else could it be?![]()
And: It has a Kelvin-timeline style bridge window. Prime timeline my ass.![]()

I suggest they just declare TOS's look to not be canon.![]()
At least part of the map is the Big dipper.Looks like one of the other names is Merak, i.e. Merak II from "The Cloud Minders".
The ship in the poster doesn't look like the Shenzou or the version of the Discovery we've seen...![]()

There's a lot of speculation based on the look of the series being very similar to the movies, but that doesn't mean it's set in the Kelvin timeline. It's very similar to the Kelvin itself, which was (initally) part of the prime universe too. It's more to do with 21st Century aesthetics than 23rd Century narratives.I hear some are saying this takes place in the Kelvin timeline is that true?
