I think there is a way to update the Cage era look while holding onto a sense of the uncluttered minimalism. I shudder to say this, but that's at least what the intent of Axanar was (whether they were going to achieve it or not).

Yes! Thanks for noticing. In anticipation of Discovery in general and Michael Burnham in particular I wanted to create a possible look into the series that could at first glance come off as a screenshot of an actual episode. Of course a lot of it is pure guesswork at this point; no one really knows what the uniforms will look like, how Sonequa's hair will be made up and if that set from the trailer was actually the Discovery bridge.@M: I like your avatar. Is that something that you cooked up or what?
Not living in the USA I never quite understood how the term “social justice warrior” could become such a negative connotation. For my European ears it actually sounds like something rather good.Being beat over the head with SJW crap.

The term 'warrior' is being used to mock and ridicule, by hyperbolically comparing the SJW to a soldier, thus implying that they have delusions of grandeur. Not living in the USA I never quite understood how the term “social justice warrior” could become such a negative connotation. How about not blaming anyone and just having different reactions?
Because some parents like to believe (delude themselves) their children are clones and not the product of the horizontal rumba. Consider at 16 years old you can get married, join the armed forces and legally make offspring, being grounded for seeing buttcrack is ridiculous.Something is wrong if you're grounding your 16 year old for seeing sideboob and buttcrack.

If you want to reach people with a message of love and understanding between all genders and skincolors, don't broadcast that message with terms like 'f***ing nazi's' for example.
Exactly! The nations that have high teenage rates are the ones where sex education is considered taboo or not important. If you aren't open at home, your kids will go out and learn about it elsewhere. Sometimes with lifelong damaging results.
There's something about Star Trek that advocates for a sort of, I dunno, Martin Luther King "we're all in this together" style approach. Kirk's big speeches were an appeal to do the right thing. It was about the issues, not about the individuals:
Picard took that approach and gave it a stentorian spin.
There are many (probably a big group who voted in Trump) who feel that social justice has devolved into little more than shaming and name-calling, which just furthers an us vs. them mentality.
The nasty expletive-laden way the gay sulu issue was argued online, even by the filmmakers themselves, provides a real contrast to the passionate but civil way Trek delivered ideological speeches. The idea is if you don't see things the way we do then we won't try to get through to you, we'll just spit on you and walk away. That's the kind of thing that simply accomplishes nothing in this world, or just makes things worse.
I think it's part and parcel of the loss of civility that the internet has been doing to our brains for the last 20+ years.
I'm not whom you asked, but I'd say the Star Trek Continues episode "Lolani" would be an example of how Discovery should *not* handle a moral or ethical message - there's an extended portion of the namesake's dialog where they really should have just given her a little pulpit and let her beat people with it.^ What would you consider a SJW show? Give examples please.
That might be true but I find it a little absurd to criticize the "Social Justice Warriors" for that first and foremost.
