WHen will you watch Discovery? Will you get All Access?

Hourly wages also add up. If they're wasting your time, they're wasting theirs too. Let's say they spend 10 minutes trying to convince you not to cancel, and let's say 1 in 4 (and I think that's generous) is convinced to stay another month. That's $9 an hour (minus whatever costs involved in actually streaming per client) while paying the retention specialist $14 or more for their time.

 

^ These people work on commission. If they don't talk you into staying, that counts as a lost customer. This adds up, and eventually they are fired. That's why they're so desperate.

Yes... that's kind of my point. The attempt isn't worth the salary, let alone commissions, paid to get it done. More likely, no one will be fired because such specialists won't be hired in the first place.

 

How is it that you have not created an email account just for making purchases / managing spam etc? I think I did that back in 1998 when hotmail came out.

I will definitely sign up for the first season. No question about it. If it's not good or I don't care about it for some unknown reason, I'll simply cancel my subscription.

But, there's no way in hell I'm going to sit back and yawn while a new Star Trek series is available to watch.

$6/month (for approximately 4 episodes) is very reasonable to watch my favorite sci-fi franchise...even if I don't watch another single thing on the service.

 

I'll watch the premiere on CBS if I don't have to work. From there it'll be ASAP, which I imagine will be the following weekend the episodes are released.

BUT... I'd watch it yesterday if they'd let me!

 

They aren't going to have retention specialists for a six dollar a month service. You don't think they've studied the models of Netflix, Hulu, Amazon and others?

Seriously? How many accounts would someone have to save a month in order to make minimum wage, at a small percentage of $6? I saved a $200,000 account working in a call center a few years ago, and made $1,400 for the effort. That is about three quarters of one percent of the value of the account. The accounts for All-Access have no value as the customer is getting no service/nothing tangible without paying for it.

It would be incredibly foolish for CBS retention strategy/workflow to be anything more than a form e-mail to customers that cancel.

 

I onlu have Netflix so the cost of All Access won't be a big deal. I just need to make sure I can watch it on tv & ont on a tablet, maybe I'll splurge & get a Roku.

 

I'll see it when CBS stops trying to make All Access the only distribution method and either releases it to other streaming services, or via a la carte digital options like iTunes.

 

I don't mind making accounts for services I know I'll use often. Doing it to watch just one show kind of leaves me cold, though as I said I do find 10minutemail.com very useful for disposable email stuff (I hope it works with CBS).

 

Roku is good for that. CBSAA also has an app if you have an Xbox One or PS4.

 

It'll be on Netflix here, so I'll watch it on Netflix.

I never thought I'd see the day when living outside of US meant I'd have easier access to Star Trek than the natives.

 

You shouldn't pay attention to the bitching. It won't be any real effort to watch Discovery on All-Access.

 

As an American, I haven't really been appalled or feel inconvenienced by the CBSAA model. I figure it's the way tv is moving in general, and frankly it's a direction I prefer. I'd rather pay for a few services than pay for a cable package.

 

Here in England it's on Netflix. I'll be starting my one-month free trial on Discovery debut day and if I'm anything like everyone I know who has ever tried Netflix, I'll never unsubscribe.

 

I unsubscribed at one point because I preferred Hulu. Still do, since I primarily like to watch current tv episodes and I feel like Netflix's selection has gotten worse over time. I'm a user on a family member's Netflix account though, so I can still use it.
