I'll watch the first episode on tv but I'm not paying for the CBS service. It's not about the money. I can afford the $6.
It's not about affording the $6, it's about having to create another external "account" just to watch ONE BLOODY SHOW.
And does anyone really believe that CBS isn't wise to the fact that people will subscribe, watch DSC, then cancel once the season's over? And do you really think CBS will make it EASY to do so?
Don't even try to tell me that CBS won't have "retention specialists" like the major cable providers do. They'll make you jump through all sorts of hoops to cancel. And it won't be pretty.

Every service in the world monitors retention and will try to figure out ways to convince people to stay. That is normal for any business, streaming or otherwise. I seriously doubt they'll make it more difficult to cancel than what you already encounter with other services. The only pain in the ass I've encountered is Audible, where you have to go through five different "are you sure?" and "how about a free six months?" screens before they'll let you cancel. I believe the one time I canceled Hulu they had one "how about a deal?" screen. I think it would be worth testing this "CBS WILL NEVER LET YOU GO THOUGH!!!" theory before people use it as a reason not to sign up. I could be convinced to be that guinea pig if anyone cares to know.
I wonder what intolerable hoops you're really referring to. Like threatening to sue you? lol
I've already been through this with them. You have to call them to cancel and that involves waiting on hold forever to talk to a person.

These are their terms and conditions regarding cancellation:
Cancellation. You can cancel your subscription to CBS All Access at any time by contacting us at (888)274-5343, Monday to Sunday 8 am to midnight EST, or by logging into your account at https://www.cbs.com/all-access/account/ and clicking "cancel subscription." If you cancel your subscription, the cancellation will go into effect at the end of the then-current monthly subscription period.
It was maybe a year ago. There was no online option at that time.
It would be extremely unusual if that were still the case. I'm curious enough to test it. If I decide to sacrifice $6 to sign up and cancel, I'll report back.
The perceived value is that I get to watch Star Trek for a small amount of money.
I'll watch the pilot - then probably get the BluRays. I don't have my TV networked to the internet; and I don't care for watching it on my PC or phone.
For anyone (like myself) who isn't too keen on the prospect of creating a whole new account just to watch one show, and who does not want to give up their real email address, I highly recommend 'disposable' services such as 10minutemail.com.

I'll see it when it ends up on Netflix in the US or through other means such as when rentals are available or the library gets a copy. Although $6 is pretty inexpensive, I'm not particularly excited to purchase an extra service just for the right to watch one show. Honestly, as much as I like Trek, my current subscription services will keep me in enough content to keep me occupied until I can find a legal way to see Trek without slapping down a credit card. If CBS had other shows I wanted to see as well it might be different. . .
Nonsense. They aren't going to chase you around for six dollars a month. Cable providers are trying to hang onto people that are paying two to three hundred dollars a month for their services.
I would not be at all surprised if they did. $6 / month can add up to a lot, in the long run. Why should I believe that CBS would be so cavalier about losing customers in this fashion? NO provider would want that.
I would imagine they've been watching the market and understand that there will be fluctuations based on when content is available.
Your earlier post came off as hysterical.
I'm going to watch it as soon as possible. Probably on Netflix.
No-commercial service here I come!
