Trek 4 to bring together Chris Pine & Hemsworth?

Having TFA director come back to Trek got to be worth an extra 100m in box office
People don't flock to see movies because of who the director is. If that were the case, than Beyond should have done much better than it did since the Fast and the Furious movie that was released around the same time as STID and trampled it at the box office was directed by Justin Lin. Having Abrams direct the next movie won't guarantee a large audience, the only thing guaranteed is the presence of lens flares.

There are a couple of directors whose names would increase Star Trek box office. Imagine...

Quentin Tarantino's Star Trek

Martin Scorcese's Star Trek

Christopher Nolan's Star Trek

At this point, Spielberg's name would probably have a negative effect. ;)

Spielberg directing Trek 4... wow just imagine (maybe he's a trek fan whose always wanted to direct a trek movie?) he likes dealing with the father/son issues stuff too.

(he was sort of involved in ST09 abit too)

Forgot about Jurassic Park. I'm being a bit harsh, but really, for someone to start out so well, and end up making movies which mostly qualify as "technically not terrible". I'm thinking of Minority Report, War of the Worlds, and A.I., these being most relevant to sci-fi fans. And of course there was that feeble Indiana Jones sequel....

I saw a bit of Catch Me If You Can, and thought it looked decent (it was kind of imitation Scorcese in style), but given the recent track record I'm not prepared to risk wasting my time on it.

I'd love to see either Abrams or Lin back. They're both two of the best directors in the franchise. With Lin, I like his version of Trek a little better, it's more old school, but I do think his action scenes can at times feel a little too "fast and furious", almost incoherent at times. Abrams seems to bring a sense of vigour and energy that just draws people in.

What I'm worried about is these writers. I have no clue who they are and why they got hired of all people. I'm not writing them off, it just seems like a major risk to throw them in the deep end like that. Abrams says it's his favourite script yet, and while he's a great director, I'm not fully confident in his ability to judge the quality of a script with his track record of working with names like Robert Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof, three screenwriters I'm not particularly fond of.

They wrote the rejected Trek XIII script that Orci was supposed to direct. You know, the one with Shatner trying to restore the Prime Universe or something stupid like that.
