Why didn't Beyond do better at the Box Office?

I would be surprised if China adds more than 50 million dollars. Japan, France, Spain may add another 15 million together. But that's it.

This movie will barely make 300 million Dollars in total.

Remaining markets with amounts made for STID:
France - $8m
Spain - $4m
Japan - $10.8m
South Korea - $11.4m
Mexico - $6.7m
Brazil - $5.2m
Belgium, Norway = $1m each
Turkey, Czech Rep = $700k each
(Smaller countries not included = Peru, Venezuela, Chile, Bolivia, Columbia, South Africa, Panama, Argentina, Israel, Portugal)

That's around $50 million for the previous countries yet to be released. And your opinion is that those regions will all drop a combined 70% while China stays almost flat? Also, the Chinese box office went from a $3.6 billion yearly total in 2013 to $6.8 billion last year (2015). That China adds nearly 20 new screens a day for movie patrons . . . . soooooo . . . . those are some facts and numbers to compare with your hunch. In another 5 weeks we can look back and see how accurate your "gut feeling" was.

There is stupidity involved, but I suspect it's mine...

You aren't the only one. I've had TOS on so many formats that I've lost track, and will likely buy the lost clips release coming later this year.

I don't think I'm the target audience. I'm coming to the conclusion I may only be going to see them because they've got Star Trek in the title...

I've known I am not either since they said before 09 opened, Not your daddy's ST, and This Trek isn't made for fans but we hope they come along for the ride.

The choices were, become bitter and spend the rest of my days bitching or deal with it. Like all the times Trek evolved before I chose to deal with it.

We're only in week 2 of the movie and, to my knowledge, there's nothing really big coming out after Suicide Squad, so Trek might not get shoved out of theaters yet.

All 3 of my local AMCs have cut screenings by only half since the same time last week. From 16 to 8 a day on two screens, including afternoons and even a couple in 3D. So yeah, hopefully this is where we see the film grow legs and walk it's way through the summer. <crosses fingers>

My nearest multiplex (Odeon 25 miles away):

Week 1: Star Trek Beyond was on 2 screens per day, 5 showings per screen.
Week 2: 4 showings on one screen per day.
Week 3: 2 showings per day.

Imagine it'll be gone from Friday.

My local one screen, which had Independence Day: Resurgence, hasn't had Beyond at all. I think I saw Into Darkness there 3 years ago.

Speaking as a Trekkie who came in 1990, I got to know the franchise and love all members. And this new timeline... I love seeing this what if played out. I also like the idea that Beyond implied. Post-ID, I think Ambassador Spock realized that he could not keep quiet about the possibilities of what might come to his counterpart and their friends. And so in that year while they waited for the Enterprise to be repaired and readied for its five year mission, he told them of his journeys and the friends he knew. I wonder, however, if he didn't tell them of the infamous fan dance...
Uhura:... Whose idea was it?!

I don't think that's likely at all. It's far more likely Star Trek Beyond will reach 150 to 160 million (I think it will be closer to 150 than 160) in the US.

And the foreign markets are now on 66 million. You really think we will be getting a 150 million Dollars more from countries outside the US??? Absolutely not. In every country this movie is down from the previous one. I would be surprised if China adds more than 50 million dollars. Japan, France, Spain may add another 15 million together. But that's it.

This movie will barely make 300 million Dollars in total.
And?

I enjoyed the film. I think it "flopped" because of the lack of marketing, unappealing trailers and because Into Darkness possibly turned people off.

^^Yeah, if i was not a Trek fan here in the UK, i doubt i would have even known a new Trek movie was out, never mind it being the 50 Anni of the franchise.

Yeah, Star Trek Beyond flopped! What an embarassment! It's clearly a sequel no one wanted!!! Who greenlit that crap???

Sincerely,

Alice Through the Looking Glass
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2
The Hunstman: Winter's War
Zoolander 2
