Why didn't Beyond do better at the Box Office?

Again, that film is definitely going to make a profit, don't get me wrong; but I'm sure WB and DC are still looking for something the critics and audiences really like - like a number of the Marvel Studios outings that have both had good critic and fan reviews and brought in over 1 Billion+ box office worldwide

Thats easy just hire Robert Downey Jr. you know that guy in the 4 MCU movies that made over a billion.

$135 million is VERY good to be certain; but again, I have to wonder if Warner's and DC are STILL disappointed in that earlier (just two weeks ago), entertainment industry pundits were saying Suicide Squad could open at $145 - $160 million domestically; and even with the $135 million it received, here's another big budget DC superhero outing that WON'T break the 1 billion dollar worldwide box office ceiling.

STB overall is a well reviewed film. That might help it recoup more when it gets to the Pay and Subscription Movie Channel phase of it's revenue generation for Paramount. Time will tell.

It will sadly drop hard next week. the word of mouth is poor from almost all the critics and many fans. Suicide Squad will not have legs at the box office. it will not beat guardians of the galaxy or deadpool.

Dear God, what was the board like during Nemesis and Enterprise?

In the case of Nemesis at least, when the numbers for the second weekend came in - for reference, it was the worst-ever drop for a film widely released by a major studio. And the film it took that title away from? Only that same year's super-duper-mega-flop The Adventures of Pluto Nash - I recall there being an initial sense of shellshock, which rapidly gave way to anger at Paramount for putting it up against Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and James Bond outings. Some were under the illusion that it'd lead to Paramount recruiting Jonathan Frakes to direct TNG's answer to The Undiscovered Country, but as we all know, nothing of the sort happened, or was apparently even vaguely considered.

No-one should be under the illusion that Beyond is a rip-roaring success, but people need to keep some perspective. As mentioned, not only was Nemesis an outright flop instead of just a disappointment, it was a record-breaking flop. And before that, The Final Frontier wasn't just poorly received, it was fully regarded as being up there with the contemporary likes of Howard the Duck, Superman IV and Jaws: The Revenge as one of the worst films of all time, and kept that reputation for well over a decade. The film franchise has been in far worse places before.

Not counting critics, I've seen quite a few positive fan reviews. As a fan of Man of Steel and BvS, I think I'd like it if at least ONE of these DCEU movies could be universally...at least LIKED if not loved.

There was no one likable in Suicide Squad. That was the biggest issue for me.

Yeah, well Star Trek is owned by people who don't really give a crap how liked it is as long as it makes money.

But Star Trek isn't making money anymore, is it? The TNG Blu-ray release died on its arse, and Beyond will be lucky to get back its budget and marketing/distribution costs of $285m approx, to say nothing of actually making a profit.

Lots of people trying to convince themselves Star Trek was Not. Dead.

Star Trek is far from dead. We've got a new TV show coming out in a couple months.

The movie franchise is not dead but it is at a crossroads. Paramount has to figure out if it wants to risk investing the necessary money in a big tentpole movie, or go back to the smaller (cheaper) Trek movies. Had Beyond be a more modestly budgeted Trek movie like in the past, it actually would be doing fine. The core fan base is still there clearly but Beyond lost most of the more general audience.

STB will always be viewed historically as a better film I would guess.

Another guess...70% drop for Suicide Squad next week.

I mentioned this in another thread, but I was surprised when I went to go see it today that the theater was packed. I've been hearing about this box office freefall so I expected us to be the only people in the joint. But in this huge theater the only empty seats were up in the little section right in front of the screen, the main section of seats was full. This isn't a very big city, it only has 3 theaters (Star Trek is showing at two of them), and usually if a movie isn't doing good at the box office or has been out a few weeks the seats are mostly empty.

No one honestly knows that. A more modestly budgeted film may not have drawn as large of a crowd.

People need to quit passing off their opinion as fact. If we use the same formula for the TNG films as we do the Abrams films, people would notice the margins are just as tight. Generations made $118 million worldwide on a $35 million dollar budget. Half of the gross would go to theaters, leaving $59 million ($24 million above budget) going to Paramount before Print and Advertising costs for a movie that was heavily marketed.
