Interviews begin for new live action "Masters of the Universe"

I run the He-Man fansite www.hemanworld.com. I'm a huge fan of He-Man, and in particular, a big fan of the 1987 film starring Dolph Lundgren. My hope is that they cast an actor who looks like He-Man brought to life. It might be good for them to do a talent search, rather than just cast a known actor. Christopher Reeve wasn't well known when he was cast as Superman, and that turned out pretty well.

Jason Momoa!

But seriously folks, I love the original movie too, but Dolf was not a great actor, so any unknown beefcake would work.

The movie was fun but it was barely about Eternia. The cartoon reboot was better. Skeletor was almost a credible villain, Evil Lynn was great, and the serpents were a refreshing change of pace. If they can follow that model but a bit grittier, it might be interesting.

There was a script for a MotU movie knocking around a few years ago by the name of 'Greyskull'. It was OK, if a little too blindly slavish to the Joseph Campbell structure. Nothing terribly original and it took itself perhaps a little too seriously. Still, if they're going down the origin story route, I'd like to see them integrate some of the backstory. The reboot cartoon from a decade ago had a pretty good prequel episode featuring King Greyskull, the snake men and Hordak.

I'll be curious to see where this movie goes, but I'm not holding my breath. The Director is the guy who brought us the 'Charlie's Angels' movies and 'Terminator Salvation'. Not massively encouraging, but at least he has some experience with effects driven movies.

P.S. Something I came across while looking into the director: it seems Dave Bautista has volunteered to be Skeletor. ;)

I was thinking He-Man should tell people he's proficient in Word. It was my first thought when I read the thread title.

Also describe how he deals with people like Skeletor

The movie should have an after-end credits scene in which He-Man breaks the fourth wall to tell the audience the moral of the story.
