For crying out loud, can you let it go? Mission parameters change, goals are shifted. STC has been consistent in moving forward in the time period they've chosen to inhabit.I'm simply adhering to their stated intent. You can't even pretend to maintain that illusion if you keep referring to things that would have been beyond the knowledge of those making TOS back in the day.
TOS would never have made any references to other series and films because those things did not yet exist. And that includes TMP. What GR and the rest thought for the characters a decade later isn't likely to have resembled what they thought a decade earlier when the show was in production.
I love that striving for a sense of authenticity as if we had somehow managed to get a few more episodes from TOS, but every callout to a post TOS production chipped away at whatever sense of authenticity achieved.
Your suspension of disbelief is already challenged by having a different cast along with contemporary language and sensibilities creeping into the writing, but it's further undermined by allowing pointed references to things that simply wouldn't have been on the TOS team's radar.
You can't make a claim to be just like it's 1969 again and yet keep doing things to undermine your stated intent.
Nonetheless STC's record pretty much insures it will be done well.
One of the things I love about TOS is that it stands apart from the rest. It isn't cookie cutter. It's its own thing and untouched by the sensibilities of contemporary Trek of the '80s, '90s and 2000's.
The reason TOS didn't reference anything from other eras is that they didn't exist yet. But you know that. Constant complaining about not strictly adhering to the 1969 aesthetic is just that. Complaining.
You've said that you enjoy STC. So do I. But I don't hold them to an impossible standard. They have proven that they are very good at what they do, and I can't think of more than a few nitpicks that might make it better. If you have notes, send them in. I'm sure Vic would welcome your input.
But I wouldn't expect him to change his plans.
