This may have been posted already but I haven't gone through all the threads. Looks like this is Discovery's new Captain chair under construction. Let the teeth-gnashing continue!
That chair seems to point toward TMP or Re refit era. It is clearly not a TOS style chair, but does look like those of the refit era
Like the ship herself, the captain's chair looks ambiguous enough that it could fit in almost any era of the prime timeline. The fact that upholstery and control panels have yet to be installed makes it even more difficult to pin down a timeframe.
Nope, That's the final design. Turns out the show is going for a low tech vibe. Expect a lot of pulleys, rope and sail cloth.
I hate it. How is the captain supposed to get comfortable in a wooden chair? Major fail, DISC will suck. The end.
Nice solid look. I wonder if the dais it's sitting on is going to be part of the set itself or just something temporary. If it is in fact going to be part of the set, then we can infer that the big chair is a solo affair and not grouped with other chairs, and elevated above the main deck level. And wouldn't it be cool if the center platform could spin around? Mark
I think that is an under construction chair. I'm pretty sure that is the basis of the chair and it will not remain wooden
So, yeah.... I'm a bit surprised. I thought it would be a quickie for SDCC, but turned out SDCC was just a run of the mill Q&A that boldly went where every single convention since the dawn of time has went before.... I thought they'd have some tech on the arms, or space hollowed out for some inserts. But a chairs a chair - as long as we get some Kelvin-era ceilings I'm happy
That chair has got an early TNG vibe about it. Might it have been plucked from some unused concept design of Proberts? Looks familiar.
I get a very 70s retro impression from it as well. It looks way too wide, just like the ship. Maybe it'll look better with some control panels in the armrests.
