Don't forget in 2013, the AU dollar was higher than the US dollar.
Both figures are AU dollars; it's an Australian site.

Shocking! Because I think Star trek Beyond is the best reboot Trek film yet!
If ST4 gets made, I think the budget will get cut for it.

There were several reports that the budget for Beyond had been cut back from ID by $20 million or more. Filming in Dubai was part of the cost-cutting measures.
I was quite surprised to see it reported as $185 million - until recently, it was reported as quite a bit lower. I wonder if it blew out a bit.

Yes, I remember when it was reported that STB's budget was getting cut, but I think Paramount eventually decided to spend more money on it.I thought the budget for STB was going to be cut.
That 185M doesn't include the 100M+ they spent to market the film.$185m doesn't include the $75m Paramount got for product tie in from Hewlett Packard and others; nor however much Alibaba and Hua Hua Media each coughed up for their stake.

If STB underperforms, which looks likely, I can't imagine that they'd spend another 180M+ on the next movie. Honestly, that might be a good thing.
It almost seemed like any cuts went to the marketing budget. Was the 50th Anniversary even mentioned in any of the TV ads? Where was the nostalgia factor?

Alibaba & Hua Hua also cut into Paramount's potential profits.
I think they look at it as a long term investment in the franchise. They want to build the franchise up; turn it into a global brand, then cash in from all the sequels, merch, licensing, cross promotions that follows.Leading back to the main point, why spend some much money?
Many will disagree, but I want a small story that focuses on characters and dialog, with way less action. It would cost less, and most of the Star Trek people would still come out to see it.A moving story of The Inner Light or City of the Edge of Forever type would have been a fitting nod; plus the requisite amount of action is a B story arc would ne acceptable.

Whoa, whoa, whoa! HP did NOT pay Paramount $75 million dollars to help make Star Trek Beyond. Are you confusing Deadline's report of HP and numerous other companies providing "promotional support" for STB? Read that as free advertising from various companies (Like painting a plane and letting the cast use it for premieres or using their commercials and product placements to promote the upcoming Star Trek movie). They did not provide $75m to bankroll the film. Hell, you could buy 15-20 minutes of Super Bowl ads for that and reach 20 times the people.
Maybe Paramount relied TOO MUCH on all these crappy product tie ins and that's why the marketing seemed underwhelming compared to the previous outings. Marketing a tentpole movie like STB can easily run a studio $60-100 million domestically and then another $60 million or so overseas. Perhaps that's where they decided to get creative and cut costs.
It's that low because it's just started it's cinematic run.
It'll go up the list with each passing week as it makes more moeny until it leaves the cinemas.
Thanks for the clarification.
I guess there is 'real' money, 'movie' money and 'services in lieu of' money.
At the end of the day, it takes hundreds of people to make a movie and I doubt even the director or producer has absolute control over just how much the studio wants to budget.
They'll get all the money they need to make the movie but they have little control over what other expenses get piled into the official budget figure.
But Suicide Squad is a big threatI see it hitting 200 million. if it performs the same way as trek 09 and STID. I see it hitting 210 million.
Jason Bourne may not be a threat bus the film is getting mixed to negative reviews.
