On one hand, I'm glad that they're not just re-hashing old villains, on the other hand... The Tinkerer?
What's wrong with the Tinkerer? He's a well-established villain and one of three in the movie who likely has a minor role.
Oh, neat. He's one of the obscure villains who played a role in my Spider-Man novel Drowned in Thunder.
In fact, it seems like this movie is trying to go back to the beginning with Spidey, and not just with the high school setting. The Vulture and the Tinkerer were the second and third villains that Spidey ever faced, both debuting in Amazing Spider-Man #2 in May 1963. I wouldn't be surprised if the rumored third villain in the movie were the Chameleon, Spidey's very first foe (other than Uncle Ben's killer, J. Jonah Jameson, and the Fantastic Four, sort of).

I was thinking the same thing in regards to the Chameleon. I've always been fascinated by the character and I would love to see him finally featured in a film.

Yup, that's been a thread in the comics for a while, at least since New Avengers and Civil War. And since RDJ is the anchor of the MCU, it's no surprise that they'd embrace that.
