BUT - I think that, if Star Trek Into Darkness hadn't been the 12th film and this the 13th, that Krall would have been that little bit more awesome.

Sofia Boutella is a wonderful addition to the cast. I think Jaylah will appeal to the same sorts of audiences as characters like Katniss Everdeen.

I'm a composer and composition teacher by study, so soundtracks is my thing. In his previous films the soundtracks have often relied too much on his one or two main motifs - but he's much more subtle here. Still a coherent soundtrack (and more calls back to the stuff from the last 50 years), and it definitely sounds like Giacchino has settled into the Star Trek thing much better.
