Now, when you mean "can't lie," do you mean "compelled to tell the absolute, factual truth" or "compelled to tell the truth as they believe it to be?" Because the two are different, and could have vastly different outcomes.

Take the Middle East: Under condition 1, one resident might say to another resident "You know, we're self-righteous jerks, and we're screwing each other's peoples over in a desperate attempt to hold on to power we don't deserve, and it's hurting all of us more than it helps any of us. "

But under condition 2, the same resident might instead say "You and everyone in your country ought to be blasted from the surface of the Earth for all time."

(One hopes one wouldn't hear the words spoken in condition 2 said under condition 1, though there are individuals I think it could be objectively said about.)

Well hey what inspired me was this movie "The invention of lying" where they live in this world like ours but nobody lies till someone invents lying......

I just wondered what pollies would be like in a world where they could not lie..

It would become blissfully quiet, at least in locations where politicians and world leaders happen to be. Here in Canada, this is the season known as the "barbecue circuit" where municipal, provincial, and federal representatives are expected to show up to at least one local fair or festival and flip burgers and hand out hot dogs to the public. Or sometimes they substitute serving at a pancake breakfast for the public instead of a barbecue. It would be refreshing to just hear the words "hi" or "hello" and not one syllable of politicking. Even when some of them say "have a nice day" they don't really mean it.

On the other hand, it would be a golden opportunity to get at the truth behind some of the decisions and votes they've done. I know who I'd corner and demand truthful answers from. It would take more than a day, though.
