Why Do The Klingons Look Like Shredder From TMNT

The ears are kind of odd to me, in comparison to previous depictions of Klingons. But I don't see why this is such a big deal.

Fair enough :techman:

Here's a point of consideration that is more of why I think the way I do. Abrams' get's crap for changing things "unnecessarily" and not making "true Trek (trademark pending). At the same time, when he revisits characters from prior works, then he is "unoriginal" and "ripping off" Star Trek.

To me, the Klingons in the new films, regardless of my personal opinion, add to the Klingon culture because we actually get to see some sort of variation in their style of dress. I mean, since TNG, we have not seen a whole lot of differences in terms of their wardrobe and culture.

So, maybe it is a change that makes no sense, or maybe, just maybe, the Klingon Homeworld is a rather large and potentially diverse in terms of regional differences. And that's a change I can get behind.

I hadn't thought of it that way but you make a convincing argument:bolian:

Even though I'm not a fan of the look sported by the Klingons in Into Darkness I'm forced to agree it's about time we saw some variation in Klingon fashion:klingon:

It was once suggested here that the Klingons in ST09 looked human just like they did in TOS and they wore those helmets to hide or compensate for their shortcoming. I liked that idea.

It would have saved a lot of time if you'd simply said this in the first place.

Surely "they look stupid" gets the point across:wtf: Did you really want me to post "I don't like them" as a reply to a thread? Aren't you supposed to state reasons for your opinions?

I swear this is the worst sub section on this entire board. Every time I post in it there's drama.

What drama? People wanted to understand your reasons and asked for elaboration. Discussion requires a back and forth exchange of information.

I gave you my reasons. You wouldn't accept them. I even slipped in a few "in my opinions" just to make sure you knew I wasn't stating my opinions as facts. If I'd simply wandered into the the thread and stated "I don't like them" as the moderator suggested there wouldn't have been any discussion to have.

On a side note, it's a sad day when people no longer remember what stuff from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles looks like... especially with two new movies in theaters in the last couple years.

No, I just explained why I found your reasons to be faulty. That's part of discussion, too. You say something. I counter it and explain why. No drama, just a back and forth discussion.

Let me be clear, this isn't me trying to brow beat you in to agreeing or submission. If you don't like them, that's fine. I just prefer to have a little more understanding of the "why" behind it, and your explanation is helpful.

Thanks :)

Also, this.

Then again, some of us have never seen the cartoons or movies . ... :)

Not a value judgment, btw. Just a generational thing.

Now I never said any of it makes any sense. I just think the change in TMP was justified by the movie budget allowing for more creativity when it came to the aliens. The phrase "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" comes to mind when I see the JJ Klingons. There was nothing wrong with the look they'd had since 1979 and (IMO) this new look is not an improvement.

The look that had evolved during the Berman years was terrible. They looked like a poor biker gang that needed a good dentist.

Meh... the original comics were better than any of the screen adaptations. ;)

So I've heard.

But why are we fixating on Klingons? What about the Trills? They completely changed their look between TNG and DS9, so who knows what they'll look like the next time we see them? There's the issue we should be worrying about . . . :)
