Nicholas Meyer Confirms Upcoming 4K UHD Release Plans for STAR TREK II: THE WRATH OF KHAN

I'm not shocked to see those lines get cut, they were both delivered flat as hell.
Spock's most definitely, but I always liked Kirk's joyful bragging about his son to Spock. It helped falsely set-up that things were looking up.

Any word on whether we'll, at last, get to see the many deleted scenes (Baby Khan, Saavik's background, Sulu's promotion etc) in this edition?

Now that's a good review..

I wasn't going to buy this but now i think I am.

The Digital Bits review is up.

Also an interesting note. This is officially a 'new version' of the film that differs from the Director's Edition seen on TV and DVD. In the added shot of Kirk, Spock and Saavik climbing out of a hatch, the exchange between Kirk and Spock regarding Kirk's son has been removed. It's kind of weird considering that the shot is still in the film, but the dialogue isn't. So hold onto your DVDs if you got'em!

Still going to wait and see how the 4K release shakes out before spending more money on a movie I already own multiple versions of.

I'd be careful. Paramount may take the sales of this BluRay as indication of it's potential 4K release. I've held off on getting the new Independence Day Blu-Ray because I knew that the 4K set would include both the new Blu-Ray discs anyways. Star Trek II is different because Paramount hasn't officially announced a 4K release, let alone if it would contain this new Blu-Ray like the Independence Day set did.

Paramount can only ask me to double-dip so many times. If there isn't a 4K version, I'll pick up the Blu-ray later.

Good to know, I just cancelled my order. I wanted a good transfer, not a movie that has been unnecessarily fiddled around with! That new transfer almost made me order the full set of those shiny new steel books, but now I'll stick to my old BluRays and the iTunes version of the TWOK DC instead.

Oh please, it's only two lines! Doesn't make any difference in the rest of the story or beyond. It's not like Meyer digitally dubbed a British accent on Bibi Besch or anything...

Hmm. I wonder what Alice Eve is doing? While they're at it, they can put some curly hair on Chekov! :guffaw:

However, on many broadcasts during the '80s of the extended ABC Television version (including my own local affiliate's), those two lines of dialogue were completely missing during the ladder-climb anyhow. So not only have I never been hugely attached to those bits of dialogue (I won't be missing them), but it's entirely possible that Meyer has always disliked their inclusion as well, and finally took steps to remedy it this time around.

^ Just wanted add, for those of you talking about canceling your orders over a mere trifle of an audio-adjustment, Paramount will be undoubtedly watching the sales of this BD very, very closely, and will be basing decisions about future Trek feature-film HD remasters around how well this release does. This one Blu-Ray's sales success or failure could very well spell out the future of the entire (pre-J.J. Abrams) movie franchise on home video.

So if you're wanting to eventually see the Director's Edition of TMP (and the extended cut of The Undiscovered Country, plus better transfers of the other seven movies) on Blu-Ray disc (plus 4K versions), supporting this release is absolutely critical.

They aren't there, didn't get them on the DVD either, wouldn't be shocked to hear they don't exist anymore.

The workprint at UCLA still exists. It has all virtually the deleted scenes from the first 75% of the movie.

The versions of the movies I don't prefer should be destroyed.

That work print is of terrible quality, though. It would be incredible (though unlikely) to see the deleted material in full HD.

Yes, I prefer seamless branching to telling everyone how terrible I think their preferred version is.
I think the SLV is a poor version of TMP, but I'd love to see it to compare it and also, for those fans who love that version. Do it Paramount.
