Just asked that a couple pages back myself. It's short for Lord Foot in Mouth.

There was a toilet just out of frame in "Observer Effect," but you're right: that's the only one we ever actually saw.

In related news, Memory Alpha's article on toilets is nearly as impressive as its article on beards.

"omg. longterm trekkies know, longterm trekkies love, How much do I so appreciate grouping us all in a single mind."

It helps to understand that Alec Peters' arrogant attitude that HE speaks for Trek fans makes us perhaps a bit sensitive to being grouped together as a single Borgian unit.

LL&P! :techman: (We like you, trekyourself, we really do. :))

I think that's a little unfair. Can't someone just not enjoy the movies?

Apparently if you don't enjoy JJtrek you must be defective somehow. The attitude leans to, "Whats not to enjoy?"

    Plenty.

No. People get really sick of defending them. Because so many (no offense, trekyourself) tell us we're not true Star Trek fans if we do. Most of us don't care if you love or hate it. Just let us love or hate it too. And we ask that people don't speak in broad generalizations about what Star Trek fans do or don't like. Because we're all different. We all have different tastes. And that's okay. That's really all I've ever asked about my like of the JJ films. Maybe there are those out there who get upset over this to a fault. I fully admit I've had my moments of that. But generally, this is the feeling I want to convey.

Sure they can dislike the movies.

But unironic disproportionate responses to fairly minor stimulus (like making out that you have the urge to vomit after hearing someone praise JJ Abrams) is a staple in comedy. Anyone acts that way completely unironically? People are still gonna treat it (and them) like a joke.

See: "the Star Wars Prequels Raped my Childhood!"

And some say if you DO enjoy them, you must be defective.

I think it's probably a regrettable part of human nature and it obviously isn't restricted to Star Trek. Personally, though, I think everyone should dial down their personal sensitivity on such issues. I like what I like and if what I like doesn't meet your personal criteria for what a 'true fan' should like, meh, who cares?

Whenever the phrase "Abrams saved Star Trek" arises the nausea kicks in.

It fits in nicely alongside, "Alec Peters is fighting for the fans."

Trouble is, the first is pretty demonstrably true - whether I like the new movies or not, they have revived the brand to the point a new TV show is considered viable. Of course, I can't discount that other directors could have produced equally or more successful movies, but they didn't - the situation as it is has JJ Abrams as the director of two successful movies which kick started a dying franchise and led to a revival on TV as well. You may hate the saved franchise, but that doesn't mean it isn't saved.

Why are we even talking about JJTrek? There's a whole forum where this argument is going on. Just like with every Star Trek before it, there's a division among the fans. Let's agree to disagree and move on.

I replied to someone's question. Someone else didn't like the reply. Hence here we are.

I then invoked AP's name so as to not drift too far off topic.

Couldn't agree more. For me, JJ's films don't feel like Trek in the way I've defined it for myself. But many people feel differently, and that's totally cool. I get annoyed at the generalizations made by both sides. You're not a bitter hypocrite for disliking the movies; and you're not a lemming who doesn't understand "true" Star Trek if you do like them.

I don't mean to perpetuate the discussion, as it's not productive to the thread, but I wanted to make that one point. People like what they like, and there's no need to draw sweeping conclusions when it's not aligned with your own preferences.

See, up until two weeks ago, AP told everyone JJ-trek isn't "real" Trek, so we should hate it. Then JJ did something nice for AP, so AP was telling us we have to love JJ-trek for saving Trek. Last thing I heard is AP thinks JJ-trek is junk, but as it set it up for a "true fan" to be the next director, that being Justin Lin, it's okay to like JJ-trek. Or not.

Certainly everything I've seen seems to be the same dozen or so loud voices, I can't say I've noticed any real swell of support, even when given public semi-endorsements by people like Justin Lin. I'm not saying the world is against Axanar, only that the vast majority of people, fans and otherwise, couldn't give a single fuck.

Well, 10,000 fans is not an overwhelming amount by any stretch. And that's the number Axanar has thrown around a lot.
