CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

I'm sure most of those people saw the George Takai post, donated 20 bucks, got the email to join the face book group, clicked it, and I'd they didn't interact Facebook stubs the group to the bottom of their feed and most donors probably aren't following the group even if they are subscribed
Around 12,000 signed the online petition supporting Axanar. My guess is that give-or-take, they're still in that general neighborhood.

Obvious dirty joke will be left to someone else...

Thought it does remind me of my own little spat (to use the term very loosely) with Axanar... but this isn't the best place for it. Suffice to say, I honestly don't think they have any clue what copyright and trademark actually ARE.

There is an old Vulcan Proverb that I just made up...

"In Order to Break a Thing, You Must First Know It."

They knew...they knew...

Show starting in about a half an hour. We will talk Axanar a bit, but there is another bit of legal shenanigans going on and it looks like it could give rise to its own monster thread -

See you there, and thank you, as always, for your kind support.

Indeed - we could have a year's worth of shenanigans from this other ... thing*. ;)

Plus! We are looking to spin off Semantic Shenanigans. You can spend time with a blonde (me) and a redhead (Shanna, my partner in crime). We'll be the Laverne and Shirley of the G & T Show!

*When the show notes and YouTube video are up, said thing will be revealed .... Frankly, I am surprised there is no new topic for it, but it more or less just happened last weekend.

Thank you for your kind support.

I listened to part of that. So, let me get this right: Wednesday, 8 June 2016, is the last day to name defendants, yes? And discovery starts at some later date. What happens if, during discovery, you find out that there is someone involved that you didn't know about, or maybe you knew of but not how much that person or persons did made them partly responsible for the infringement? How do you go about adding this "new" person to the case? Can you, or do you have to file a whole new separate law suit against them?

Yay! Semantics Shenanigans spin-off! Take my money now!

I believe they would be required to petition the court to add more parties. They (and this could also be the defense looking at adding more parties, such as crowdfunding sites) would have to show a lot of proof and some serious cause.

I don't know Grumpy, a blonde and a redhead. This could be a one way mission!

Me: Turn at the nebula!
Shanna: What?
Me: The nebula! Turn left!
Shanna: Left?
Me: Right, make a left turn!

We then plow into an asteroid field or something.

Really? Give me these teasers...? Now I'm sitting on my podcast feed refreshing the download every (too embarrassingly many times to say out-loud).

This is seriously playing havoc with my instant gratification brain chip.

Oh noes! Give Mike some time - he generally does show notes and then the 'cast. When the blog comes out, though, there is a link to the sound file.

I wish I'd had the foresight to make this video, but I did not make it. A fun, harmless example of the power of clever editing... and it's still a better fan film than Axanar:

Also, it's an excellent example of a transformative work. Just in case anyone at Axanar Productions needs an example of what transformative actually looks like.

Oh noes! Give Mike some time.........
