Do you mean like that Valjiir Continuum that you always put a link to? I have to do something to earn money. I've heard they're starting the Star Trek: Strange New World Anthologies again that I'm thinking about getting, but I can't get it without money, and I've also read that DS9 books have been relaunched in 2014, but I can't buy them without money.
God bless, Jason Irelan
The Valjiir Continuum link is part of my signature and I've had it there for a long time. One of the Valjiir authors is a member of this forum, though not very active.

The Valjiir stories were first published in print 'zines over 30 years ago (in In a Different Reality), which is when I first started reading them. They're online now, with new material and artwork, and many of the older stories have been revised. The authors are not making any money from this, and they've never claimed that they own anything that is rightfully the property of the Star Trek copyright holders.

If you want to read the anthologies and DS9 books, I suggest you try your local library. If they don't have them, most libraries participate in interlibrary loans. And if that doesn't work out, you could always try a job... or if that doesn't work out either, patience is a virtue. There was a time some years back when I went through a 10-year stretch of not being able to afford books. That's why I'm years behind in my Star Trek reading and have no idea what most of the current TrekLit discussions are about. I'm trying to catch up with some series, and have decided to let others go for lack of interest in the story arc or just lack of space here to put more books.

I've got a few other stories that are nothing more than holodeck stories that I'd like to get printed as well. They're nothing more than holodeck stories; and to put it another way, I need money in order to buy Star Trek books; and I can't do that if I can't get some kind of income.
God bless, Jason Irelan

I'm assuming you are attempting some more conventional means of gaining said income?

What about literary agents? I'm not asking anyone to help me out with publishing one story, and I don't even need the story I started here published. I've got several stories written already, and my next project will probably be a Dave Crockett holodeck scenario. I'm going to try to insert humor in that one with his tendency to anthropomorphize his guns.
God bless, Jason Irelan

Respectfully, you can't make money with fan fiction.

The end.

Kor

50 Shades of Grey is just Twilight fanfiction and it made millions.

You know, if you really want to lower yourself to authoring that kind of thing...

Can someone please give me a board that'll accept Star Trek fiction? I don't suppose it'll be possible to trade stories for books would it? I'll remember to put the disclaimer that I don't own Star Trek or any of its characters and don't intend to infringe on the copyrights.
God bless, Jason Irelan
P.S. Why was my poll shut closed? I set it for 5 billion seconds; and the last I checked with a calculator, that's over 158 years even counting leap years.

Fanfiction.net accepts Star Trek fiction. You will have to put a disclaimer on it, and you will not receive any payment of any kind. You might get reviews (whether positive, neutral, or negative). There is no guarantee that anyone will read your story or comment on it.

No, you will not be able to trade stories for books.

Honestly, go to your local library, and if they don't have the books you want to read, ask the staff to get them for you via interlibrary loan.

I've tried that with Doctor Who videos and IDW's Star Trek comic books. I'm limited on the number of comics I'm allowed to get. My personal favorite series is still Godzilla. The story lines are much easier to follow than Star Trek's story lines lately in the movies and the Enterprise episodes. One comic book I'd like to read is that Star Trek comic that had the original crew battling the Borg with a Borg sphere on the front cover. One Star Trek comic I wouldn't get is the crossover with Archie mini-series they did. The last time I bought a Star Trek comic was when they crossed over with Green Lantern.

There's got to be some way to earn money. How did some of the other writers start out?

We are the Borg. You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.

I remember watching the special features on the last Voyager DVD show, and Kathryn Mulgrew was saying that resistance was not futile with the human spirit. I imagine if you want to be assimilated, you'd have to spend at least six hours in the makeup chair. I wonder if it's possible to go to a Star Trek convention and put on Borg gear.

Typically by writing within their own fictional setting and establishing their credentials that way. Writing is fiercely competitive and established franchises commonly take intellectual property laws very seriously indeed. You are free to write fan fiction to your hearts content, that's why we are all here after all, but when it becomes a way of making money you have to work within the existing legal framework.

Or create your own fictional sci fi universe from the ground up.

By all means go ahead and send some of your stuff to Pocket books and see what they say, after all an email is free. However, much as you seem inclined to disregard any constructive comments I have made elsewhere, writing is hardly a get rich quick scheme. Even the most famous authors have typically struggled for years before gaining financial security from it. Often the most talented continue to struggle anyway as commercial success is hardly tied to quality.

I strongly recommend you have some other steady income in place rather than becoming reliant on this before it takes off, there's no shame in doing a less inspiring or even mundane job and chasing your dreams in your spare time.

Oh, I thank you for your constructive comments most kindly. I'm not looking it as a get rich thing scheme, just a way to get some money for stories. What if I paid to have them published, with the exception of this one of course.

I know the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds anthologies are being relaunched by other editors? How many stories will they accept as attempts to get them in? I did one where Moses leads the Israelites out of Egypt. It's not really Moses. It's Barclay doing a holodeck scenario, and there's a cameo appearance with Godzilla. I'd give that one to IDW but only if they put the selling of it to good use like more Godzilla comics, preferably imports that we Americans have been having to miss out on. As near as I can tell, you are spot on about this; and I don't doubt you one bit.

Again, best suggestion would be Pocket Books, they are currently the licensed publisher for star trek works. As for SNW, I'm not sure about the situation there, as being a non US resident I find myself ineligible. I'm sure there are plenty of people here better informed.

Then the questions open to everyone.

Hey, you and I have the same rank now. I don't know if I'm right about this, but I'm guessing people get a new rank every 50 posts.

Just out of curiosity, do you have a green card? I've been curious about those and would like to see one to see if they're actually green.

Assuming this whole thing is serious... If you want to become established as a professional writer, then you need to write stories that don't use pre-existing intellectual properties. Also, until such time as you start earning enough from your writing to make a living, you will probably have to do it in your spare time while you toil away in an unrelated day job.

And it might help to have an agent.

Check to see if there are any writers clubs in your area. That's how my sister got started. She has since written several pieces for travel magazines and been paid for them. Not a lot. Some might fill the gas tank, a few might make a car payment. Most buy a meal at a fast-food joint.

I have to ask: how old are you? You don't have to say if you don't want to. From some of your postings (using library computer, etc.) I have to suspect you're a teenager, perhaps not quite old enough to drive yet. Or perhaps early 20s and just out on your own.
