Oh it's obvious that neither side trusts the other but their common enemy takes precdence now, settling old debts can come later (and Cersei might try to use this to get an upper hand over the Tyrells and once again fuck up).
This was the first time since taking over Meereen that she actually did something befitting her titles.
Is there a way to see this as anything but a power grab?
This is Game of Thrones. The only lines to be crossed are the ones we impose upon it. There are no lines in this world otherwise and Danny did exactly what her character might have done in that situation. Totally believable, totally in-character and totally awesome! One important thing though, Dany has crossed a line with her brutal burning to death of a dozen people to take control of the Dothraki. Yes, they did threaten to rape her to death but that was after she refused to take her traditional position in Dokraki society. Is there a way to see this as anything but a power grab?

Um...threatening to rape her to death is still a threat of raping to death no matter their motivation. She was well in her right to defend herself.
No, she planned that long before the threat. That's why the guards were down and doors were locked.

None of us needed to know that.I read that as "befitting her titties."![]()
