Independence Day - Resurgence

I was a "little" older than that, TF, but I feel as excited as you "sound"!

:bolian:

And thanks for the Fitchner Sighting confirmation!

I was almost 13 when the first movie came out. I never owned any shirts (I didn't even know they existed!) but I was crazy obsessed with it for a while, too. I can't count how many times I rewatched it once I got it on VHS (and, later, DVD).

I think we might just be the same person.

I saw those videos today, and I'm really digging how they are portraying the aftermath of the attack. No weird "mass amnesia" that some scifi shows and movies have done in the past. I use to love the old War of the Worlds tv show (well, first season anyway) but man was it stupid how apparently everyone in the 1950s forgot about the most significant event in human history. Love the fact that ID:R is showing plausible effects of an Alien invasion, for the most part.

They're really pushing hard that the tech from the alien ships drastically changed earth

They've got the cliché "Planetary Defense Squad" seen in countless sci-fi movies

I'm just waiting for a young pilot to say a corny line like "I want to join the ESD when I grow up"

Why wouldn't they want to join the Spacey, or ESD?

This sounds more interesting to me now. The total change of the world balance not being glossed over was one of my biggest concerns.

I love the fact they are actually presenting a drastically changed world. I was afraid they were going to just have everything going back to the way it was after the invasion, and then just presenting a 2016, or whatever year this is taking place in, that looks exactly like the real world.

Well I liked this too. I mean if a real actual alien invasion happened and we just managed to win by the barest margin the world would have definitely be changed. It would be a total mess in fact. Rebuilding would take many years. The movie estimate of 20 years is generous in my opinion.

One thing I don't like about these movies is their lack of guts to show certain parts of the world being attacked. I've read the reasons that they don't want to offend and all but in movies like this we see NY the USA and lots of Western countries being obliterated but we never see the Middle East attacked by the aliens. I'd love to see the Kaaba or something like Mecca being vaporized by aliens.

Ummm... Why would that be something you want to see over other places? I understand to some degree the allure of disaster porn, but I don't actively desire to see some place obliterated.

Some groups are very sensitive. Even the image of seeing the Kaaba destroyed on film would cause violence.

Anyway Mecca and Medina are cities of Religion. Maybe the Ailens don't realize how important religion is to Humans. Hence they don't attack them.

She's stalking me.

Amy Adams for a while, but every other movie/TV show, it's always Mae.

Only a fool invites in crazy.
