Independence Day - Resurgence

Every time I see him in a movie his acting is so bad that I think he should have stayed in the gay-for-pay stripper business, maybe do some porn.

Chunnel Tutor* is pretty good in comedies, like 21 & 22 Jump Street, or unintentional comedies like Jupiter Ascending, which is so earnest in its batshit insanity that it's hilarious, but he's just too goofy looking when he's playing serious roles
And maybe a third reason: the visual effects look much more artificial than in the original. Yeah, they are bigger, and they are more complex with lots of fluid and procedural simulations, but to me personally, the effects from the 90s look better.

The original was heavy on practical effects and models with CGI used sparingly to enhance the scene rather than dominate it. I'm not sure if they did the same with this film or if it's mostly CGI (probably CGI since it's more budget friendly)), but that could explain the difference in things appearing more artificial.

* For MLB. ;)

I loved the visual of the alien ship coming over that bridge. It was almost the perfect image of what I think this kind of thing might look like if it were real. It's a very haunting effect shot.

Some of the effects in the original were good, but in other parts the green screen was so obvious it was jarring.

Second trailer is here:

So Munchkin and Dylan grew up and must help save the planet. One good thing about this movie... we see how it affected the kids after the credits rolled.

..And July 1 is Friday. Still a long weekend for lots of people including the key North American market. Looks like they want to get people BEFORE the long weekend as well as the event itself.

That trailer hit all the funny buttons, and still made it look like a spectacular action flick as well. I'm game!

Great trailer. We even got to see Brent Spiner again.
I love all of the new technolgy they got from the aliens.
Did we see a giant alien there at the end?

It actually looks good.

And is it just me or did it sound like Bill Pullman in that trailer was bulding up to another rousing speech? :D

I thought that was Bill Pullman inside the big glass case with the smoke. Was he going to do something like fight an alien?

You know in the original I always thought somehow those captured aliens were still "alive"

There's a clip that came out a week or two ago that shows a captive alien using him as a mouthpiece like Brent Spiner was used in the first movie.

Of course the Aliens are alive...They made the first movie to totally ridicule and further cover up the fact that Area 51 is real! Think about it! If I wanted to "hide" new attention to it, I sure would get a bunch of MegaStars together and spend $75 million!

Yeah!

Was that Fitchner I saw for a second, there? If so, good that he is in...nice crossover! :bolian:

No I meant the aliens in the first movie in the glass containers. Brent Spiner's character tells us they are dead but I just always thought that maybe somehow they were not. Some of the closeups and camera shots made me think they were actually deceiving everyone.

Yeah, that was Fichtner! He always classes any movie up!

I was 16 when Independence Day came out, and that movie rocked my shit the whole summer. If you were to time travel back to the first semester of my junior year of high school, you would most likely see me wearing one of two ID-4 shirts I alternated between I loved that movie so much.

Needless to say, I'm pretty pumped about this. I almost feel like my 16 year old self again and this trailer did it for me.
