Agreed. One of my favorite episode from the 1st season, and there were more, where O'Brien befriends this interesting creature from the Gamma Quadrant. Not only would I had like to see more of the Tosk aliens but learn more about the mysterious Hunters. I liked the designs from the cool looking helmets they had and the weapons used. There was so much promise I was appreciating from DS9 and Tosk and the Hunters were an example of the potential of what's in the Gamma Quadrant. Season 2 the aliens from the GQ gets even better, but I too believe it was a missed opportunity to return or explore this species of Tosk and the Hunters. One of my favorite episodes from the first season is "Captive Pursuit" with Tosk from the Gamma quadrant. Were they even in the background in future episodes? I wish that species was explored in other episodes.
The hell I did.Tosk probably died shortly after Captive Pursuit though.
I've said a few times this is one of my favourite Star Trek episodes. I loved the story, I loved Tosk, I loved the look of the aliens, I loved the technology they used. It's such a shame this species never showed up again but it does make sense they were probably part of The Dominion. I actually preferred the look of the Tosk race to the look of the Jem'Hadar.
I also agree about the lack of Gamma Quadrant races after Season 2. People say there's nothing left to explore in the Prime Universe but we've hardly seen anything of the Gamma Quadrant and practically nothing of the Beta Quadrant.
And it was also a reminder that it is possible to introduce brand new aliens into the series and for them to be very popular. It was what DS9 used to be, a bold series which showed the promise of optimism. I can definitely see Tosk being many steps away from the Hunters.
It was definitely a flood gate to explore the possibilities to see what's out there in Deep Space with out exploring every planet those individuals came from. I was completely blown away by the effort from the production to NOT bring back aliens (Klingons and Romulans) we've seen or known before and move forward with progressive storytelling and alien make up designs. And it was also a reminder that it is possible to introduce brand new aliens into the series and for them to be very popular.
They were also mentioned in Shadowplay.I figured that there are lots of aliens living close to the wormhole but in Gem'Hadar an edict went out to the entire Dominion forbidding travel through the wormhole.
I'd conjecture that the Dominion is probably a similar size to the Federation only with a larger military, but I doubt there would be many similar powers nearby. The Founders would never be content with any powers led by solids that they can not control. The boundaries of their space are probably a large power void where there are no threats large enough to be worth extending supply lines.
I can side with that, but it still destroyed any possibilities to explore storylines excluding the cliche' threat of the DOMINION, and forever the Gamma Quadrant means Dominion space. I love the times, as limited as they were, there was a lot of potential in the concept of the new area of space where the writing talent couldn't live up too. When was the idea of the Dominion first mentioned? Earliest I can think of is Rules of Acquisition, then Sanctuary.

Yeah, small section, but the Dominion has a lot of space. Too much space from those Star Wars seasons of DS9.No all the Gamma Quadrant was part of the Dominion. The planet in The Quickening was described as being outside Dominion space. The refugees in Sanctuary had been uprooted by Dominion conquest, suggesting that their presence in that part of space was recent.
No piece of dialogue ever suggests the Dominion would control the entire Gamma Quadrant, or even any sizeable part of it. Indeed, many in Gamma have never heard of them.
