More Tosk

When Tosk is captured he is threatened by living in a cage being taunted by children. It's made abundantly clear that on Tosk's planet the hunt is like professional sports are to us.

It's like an unconfined variation of coliseum battles.

DS9 definitely should have featured Tosk again. I find Sisko/the Federation to be hypocritical for insisting that Bajor isn't allowed to have a caste system, yet they also tolerate the Hunter planet having a far worse, "murder Tosks for sport" system.

They should have made a sequel episode where the Federation comes and overturns the Tosk-hunting system. Or else the Federation could have allied with a rebellion on the planet that overturned the system.

I don't find it hypocritical. Bajor was allowed to have a caste system, right up to the point where they joined the Federation. The Hunter people weren't trying to join the Federation.

I love everything about this episode. Not least of which is that it sets up O'Brien so nicely. It is also a neat trick on the Federation's non-interference. Because they are fair and just in theory, but O'Brien, "Everyman" that he is, just can't abide by the unfairness. It sets the stage for his unique decency. Plus Tosk is just great.

But one thing, about the Dominion's control in the Gamma quadrant, was that I always wished that played into the war more. Maybe some dissenters at the prison camp where Bashier is held who were Gamma quadrant species? Maybe a hunter humiliated being captured like a Tosk? Did none of the other species in the Gamma quadrant see the opportunity to rebel? Maybe it would have been too much.
