Uniforms in the new series

Indeed, Nerys Myk.

This is a real world example of borrowing from the past, rather than using stuff of more recent vintage. Could this be an inspiration for someone designing costumes?
Russia going back to pre-Soviet iconography sounds like a different thing.

badges/pins

U.S. Air Force: Judge Advocate-scales of justice; Chaplain-a cross; security forces-a shield similar to that of a civilian cop's badge

U.S. Coast Guard uses the caduceus for medical

Use of these old symbols implies a certain historical depth. Which might help Trek obtain a certain verisimilitude

More like easy identification for the audience.

I was watching The Enemy Below (World War II destroyer versus U-boat). Noticed that both crews wore relatively simple, comfortable looking outfits. Insignia was fairly sparse (compared to a dress uniform), except for hats worn by a few officers.

I think there should be a limit on the amount of personal tech gear carried around. No personal force fields, maybe when there is a security event show them putting on vests or unpowered armor (B5 style). Something that would deflect or ablate a phaser blast but not invincible. Also moving parts and vfx add considerably to the budget, so lower tech is better.

I like the red officer uniform. As for the others, I like them, but I think maybe switch to gray to red just so that it fits in with the uniforms of that era.

Frankly, I just want to see a series with uniforms that make sense (excluding DS9). Enterprise did a decent job, but those kinds of uniforms wouldn't necessarily fit in well (depending on when the new series takes place). Just give these people some functional, simplistic uniforms. The reboot uniforms were closer to something I'd like to see, so if they could mesh those with the Enterprise uniforms, I'd be pleased.

There were a few different uniforms seen in STXI and STID. I didn't really care for the grey "service dress" uniform (Kirk and Spock being dressed down by Pike), a bit too WWII'ish (apparently that was intentional) and the "work uniforms" was essentially the same as in TOS, but with a modern pattern in the fabric.
Which ones were you thinking of?

I don't know about Thomas Kelvin but IMO the most ENT-ish, functional simplistic uniforms where either the flight suits worn over the regular uniforms during shuttle trips (which somewhat resembled improved DS9/VOY field uniforms) which I liked (but would have prefered in black or dark blue), or the "Service Greys" which I thought weren't bad style wise, but would work better in a dark blue (cf the UESF Admirals Service Uniform).

My only question is why such a large belt buckle? It seems like a nitpick, but honestly, it looks awkward for combat.

Just an observation. The rest look really cool.

I'm hoping for something similar to Star Trek Beyond's updated TOS Enterprise unis. Bright, bold colours and a badge instead of a patch.

I really am hoping they don't have the TNG/DS9/VOY/ENT shoulder stripe thing, or black or grey as the main colour.
