Prometheus 2: Apparently it's happening

^I feel the same. I liked Prometeus and Shaw and was really looking forward to seeing Rapace again. So based on all of the announcements made so far, is Michael Fassbender going to be the only returning cast member? Were there any characters who weren't on the ship who could pop up in Covenant?

Vickers got skooshed, Weyland got mauled, Millburn had a frank exchange of opinions with the proto-Facehugger, Fifield done got shot the fuck up, Janek, Chance, Ravel and the medics done got blown the fuck up, and Holloway went from original recipe to extra crispy, so that would leave Shaw and David.

As a big fan of Prometheus, I'm immensely disappointed we're not getting a direct continuation of the ending of that movie. I was so excited to see Shaw and David go to the Engineers' Homeworld and get their answers... and now she's not even in the movie?!?! :brickwall:

This!!:techman:

Disappointing news certainly, but if I had to choose between the two, I would've picked Michael Fassbender anyways because I thought David was a more interesting character than Shaw.

I feel the same. I was so excited to find out more about the Engineers, through the eyes of Shaw. This is disappointing, but I'm still hoping for a good follow-up.

Settle down folks.... maybe.

The original source article appears to be from Dailymail.co.uk - not the nerdist. You have to follow the credits, folks.

I asked if Noomi Rapace, who was in his film Prometheus (from which Covenant follows), would be working with him in Australia and he said no. ‘We’re still casting the main roles,’ he said.

The question was not whether Noomi Rapace would be in the movie, but if she would be working with Scott in Australia, perhaps in the immediate sense during casting. What if she is shooting her more minor role elsewhere? It was already known that her role might be minimal. Scott has a way of giving very bad answers that can be hugely misinterpreted. Or not. My jury is out until we have clear statement, which for Ridley seems to be impossible.

No doubt that if Rapace is actually in the movie, Scott will be accused of lying or misdirecting or being unable to ever make up his mind when it is actually the so-called "journalists" who could have gotten it wrong.

Finally, a comment I found on ScreenRant.com basically saying the same thing with a bit more elaboration:

I don’t know… I keep reading Ridley Scott’s response to Baz Bamigboye at The Daily Mail differntly than many others. From the article… “I asked if Noomi Rapace…would be working with him in Australia and he said no. ‘We’re still casting the main roles,’ he said.” That doesn’t say Noomi Rapace is not in the film at all, it just confirms she won’t be working with them in Australia (she could have already shot her scenes, especially if short). Couple that with her response at the Cirque du Soleil Amaluna event just the other day (it’s on YouTube). She smirks, then smiles and laughs while saying “no comment on that yet”. That seems to me to be the response from someone in the film, but can’t say anything as it could be a major part of the story, even if she is not in the film much. Kind of like Luke Skywalker was. Back in November of 2015, Scott did say how much of a juggernaut the new Star Wars movie would be and his reasoning for making sequels to ‘Prometheus’. Maybe he took more inspiration from the new Star Wars than just the idea of sequels?

Yeah, that is definitely a lot more open to interpretation than a definite no. Even if she doesn't have a big role in the movie, it would be nice to get some kind of on screen closure for the character.

I'll be happy just so long as it's not one scene of David telling someone else, "Oh, Miss Shaw? Yeah, she died." and then never touching on it again, Poochy-style.

It would be a pity if she didn't return, I thought she was fantastic in Prometheus. She's very talented, it shows.

I think she learned English only a short time before she shot Prometheus which is quite something when you consider the performance.

Didn't she speak English in A Game of Shadows, the second RDJ Sherlock Holmes movie? I checked and that filmed before Prometheus.

I'm upset that Naomi Rapace isn't coming back as Elizabeth Shaw.. I was looking forward to seeing them pick the story up where they left off. However, the more I think about it, it kinda makes sense she wouldn't survive the trip. I mean what did she have to eat? To drink? Assuming the alien ship she and David left in had some form of supplies she could use , and those supplies had not spoiled/decayed/disintegrated over time, would it even have been something consumable to humans?

I'm kind of seeing this now going in the same direction Prometheus went: Ridley Scott does whatever the hell he wants - fans and critics be damned - and wildly vacillating among his big ideas until it becomes muddled and confusing, all the while speaking as if the latest idea is all there ever was, like an Alzheimer's patient always living in the now and oblivious of anything that came before.

They can just replace Rapace with Rooney Mara.
Heh, that's quite funny.

If his last two space movies are any indication, at some point someone will be clutching a crucifix and babbling about faith.

it wouldn't be the first time.

I personally don't see that as an issue at all. The Engineers were human, or more accurately we are just like the Engineers so I'm sure whatever they were using for food would have been able to sustain Elizabeth. But I too am disappointed that Noomi will not be in the next movie. Most of the support (defense) I've drummed up concerning 'Prometheus' was centered around her story and performance. I really enjoyed her and wanted to see her get answers to her questions.

Once again, it has only been established that Ridley Scott said Noomi Rapace would not be joining him in Australia when he was asked during preproduction. It has NOT been established that she would 1) not be in Australia eventually, and 2) would not be in the movie at all.

Hasn't anyone learned to discredit Scott's vague, mischievous, and capricious answers yet?
