Star Wars VIII release date changed....

They are also making another movie between Episode VII and VIII. Rogue One will be out December 16, 2016.

While this might not be an issues for the filming crews and directors, it will probably be an issue for ILM and other effects related groups of Lucasfilm.

^^
ILM is huge and they do effects for a bunch of movies, they have more than enough people to do 2 SW films at the same time.

Yeah, but can they manage that plus their other film contracts? Especially if they have specialty people who do Star Wars. Six or Seven more months isn't too much to ask for, plus it give Rogue One time to have its own hype rather than be buried under Episode VIII's hype just before it gets to theaters this December.

At least it isn't three years with no other film between them like the previous six films.

Agreed I suspect this is closer to the truth they didn't want Rouge One getting lost in the hype for episode VIII, though they might through a bone and show a teaser trailer for Episode VIII with Rouge One. Sure it's a year out but got to get the hype engine in full swing.

It is less than 11 months out from Rogue One's release now and there isn't a good teaser yet for it. Just the one from Celebration they made before filming started.

^^
TFA is still in the public eye, and in theaters, so I wouldn't expect Rogue One promotion to start until TFA talk dies down just a tiny bit more.

The early teaser of Rogue One isn't all that special...but there is just something about hearing Alec Guinness as Kenobi talking about the coming of the Dark Times, with a much more threatening version of the Imperial March starting up as you finally notice the huge Death Star dominating the sky.

I think it likely we will see the Rogue One teaser with Captain America and a full Rogue One trailer attached to a TFA re-release in theaters at the end of the Summer or Beginning of Fall at the start of the marketing blitz.

But that one's already kinda 'old' now, isn't it? Shown during a Star Wars convention? I'd rather have a new teaser made for CA:CW, since it'll be over half a year since that teaser was released.

Didn't they already use that gimmick in one of the ROTS trailers?

"TFA re-release"? Is that actually happening? And if so, why? By that point, TFA will be out for home media, what would be the point in a theatrical re-release.

It has been whispered here and there supposedly. It certainly made more sense when VIII was due out next spring.

Is this teaser available for viewing somewhere online?

Supposedly the reason for the delay is that they're rewriting the movie.
I've heard something similar. Supposedly, the success of TFA is motivating Disney to want Rey, Finn and Poe to have a larger role in the movie than planned. Apparently, the original plan was to relegate them to support roles and have Episode 8 focus on new characters.

Personally, I think it would have made more sense to keep Rey Finn and Poe as the "big three" for this trilogy like Luke, Han, and Leia were for the OT and Obi-Wan, Anakin and Padme were for the Prequels, and that would have been my plan before seeing TFA's box office numbers, but what do I know?

That sounds like bullshit to me. No way did they intend to bring in a whole new group of leads after barely scratching the surface of the other 3.

Small changes responding to certain characters and their chemistry seems far more likely. The original script was also almost certainly written based on the shooting drafts of the script and/or early cuts of the film and not the final edit we saw in the theater.
