Sonic the Hedgehog as a 2D platformer.
I know that there have been games made for the GBA and DS that continue this, and I've bought them and enjoyed them, but Sonic Team is so focused on 3D Sonic that it is really killing the franchise. They strike out way more than they hit a home run. Generations was great, in my opinion, but they took a few steps back with Lost World and Sonic Boom, which I never even played because of its negative reputation. I'm glad that Sega has come out and admitted that their recent Sonic games haven't been that great, but that doesn't mean a return to form.
A non-Jedi followup to Dark Forces.
I never could warm up to the 3 followups to Dark Forces. Once they introduced the Jedi storyline I sort of lost interest. They were fun, but the story of Dark Forces was so much more interesting. A simple story of the Rebels vs the Empire. No Jedi or Dark Jedi or Sith. Plus they accomplished so much with the old school graphic engine. The game really felt like Star Wars to me.
