Deadline reporting new Trek series, what about fan productions?

That translates as their weekly prayer to the Gods of Trademark not to squish them like bugs.

What the fuck do you expect STC to say? "We'd have gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for you meddling kids and your Moonves?"

You can expect the budget per episode of the new show to be at least between six and eight million dollars. The pilot's going to cost big time, obviously.

I agree with you to a point, but I still felt that the response they gave smacked of professionalism. Well done ‘Continues’.

Well, it was certainly leaps and bounds more of a "professional" (whatever that means anymore) response than what came from Robert Meyer Burnett over at Axanar!

"Whatever"

A few months ago Renegades announced after their meeting with CBS:

“As promised to our backers, we engaged the top entertainment attorney in LA who has exceptional connections to CBS and Paramount. For reasons we are not able to disclose, CBS cannot move forward with Star Trek Renegades at this time – or any Star Trek series for that matter.”

I assume the ‘reasons’ why they could not consider other proposals for Star Trek series at that time are now known. CBS were already planning a new series.

Question: Did CBS indicate to Renegades as the time of their meeting that a new series was already in the works?

We were told their contact with Viacom prohibits them airing a new series until after the third film (STB) comes out. We had hoped that by continuing Renegades we could still have a chance to be in consideration when they were ready for a new series.

I found out later from other sources that CBS and Viacom had been working to clear there legal hurtles and prep for a series to be launched in 2017. I expected them to announce after or around STB's release but they moved that annoucement up, most likely for marketing reasons.

I expect nothing more from him.

But did he delete the tweet?

No, the post he made on Facebook is still there. There's another tweet where he mentions that he has nothing to do with the new series however:

Their Indigogo, is still on In Demand mode.. I don't see why they don't craft up a nicely worded email, saying they are excited for this new series, and that they are thankful CBS is gracious at allowing people to play in that sand box, but point out, that with Beyond coming out next year, and this new series, there is a lot of interest in the franchise, and so maybe if everyone could reach a little deeper, donate now, so we can get this film finished before this new series comes out..... yada yada yada....

They may be able to knock another 150-200 bucks from the trees, and get the film finished....

Thank you for the clarification. May I take this opportunity to thank you and everyone at Renegades for everything you are doing for us? I loved your pilot and will continue to support your upcoming episodes. I just hope I can have the best of both worlds and watch Star Trek 2017 alongside Renegades. That would be so cool. :bolian:

Thanks, we will still try to get on more episode out that will be Walter's final performance at Chekov.

I dunno, could be maybe they're just honestly excited? Just as Burnett is clearly not? I kind of assume someone who was in terror of being crushed under the iron heel of Les Moonves would be doing their best to blend in with the cosmic background noise and not be issuing statements about anything.

Probably on account of they don't need to, because the imminent boot of the CBS lawyers is yet again (rather tenuous) speculation that's irrelevant to anyone off TrekBBS?

Axanar has stated on several occasions that they've had "conversations" with CBS lawyers. I'd imagine that should CBS start cracking down, they'd have a fair warning before C&D's start flying.

I think Mr. Burnetts answer is very honest. He did not diss it and he did not praise it. And how could you? - since we know basically NOTHING about the new series.

The praise from STC to me reads just like a generic answer, with a bit of lube.

I´d take the honest answer over that any time.

Which comment? The one where he says he doesn't know anything? Or "Whatever?" The first is honest, sure. The second comes off as juvenile and whiny.

Conversations with corporate lawyers doesn't mean anything. It's very likely, the lawyers they spoke with, weren't on the "in" with this announcement, nor the direction the Studio was taking with the property.

At any point, CBS has the legal footing to shut them down, all of them, and the Lawyers have also made that clear, they exist only at the graces of CBS, and with this endeavor, it's very likely those graces will change. Specifically, because now CBS is, in effect, crowd funding the next Trek Series.....

If someone is gracious enough to let me play in their sand box, I am going to be gracious in my comments about said sand box.... It's decency and common sense.
